By that argument, no-one would bother watching the Vale, they'd all watch Stoke. I have family who are very passionate about Rovers - they are a community based club, very much akin to the Vale.

Thats not the point i was making. I agree there are fans of clubs that live nearer to other clubs ( me included ). Warren was making the point that the population totals of those other areas he stated would be Tranmere's potential fan base , Yes there maybe odd fans in those areas but for obvious reasons the overwhelming majority would support the clubs i stated.

In the centre, so to speak, the unitary local authorities of Halton and Warrington exist. These came out of Cheshire before the later reorganisation into CWAC and Cheshire East.

Cheshire County Council used to be a hated entity by many of its constituent communities. It had an arrogant culture and was too Chester centric. The current authorities seem much better.

I may have strayed off message a bit!

I live in East Cheshire. In essence Cheshire as a county no longer exists as it is now split into 2 unitary authorities. Though we are both straying off topic a bit 😁

Until 1974 the whole of the Wirral was in Cheshire. Then the metropolitan counties were created and Wirral came within Merseyside. Merseyside and what can more widely be taken to be it's hinterland has a very big population and of course Liverpool and Everton have much greater support. The inherent population of Merseyside is about 1.5 million, but much of NW Cheshire area can be added to that for football purposes. Tranmere, when I moved round here in the 1980's, was not averaging more than a about 3,000 and today, even in a bad season, is above 6,000 and the average could be up around 9,000 if doing better. So that's progressed considerably in the community.

There isn't the bitterness between fan groups that might be said to exist elsewhere. It is very much the case that fans who would count Liverpool or Everton as their first love will support Tranmere. Also many inherent Tranmere fans will choose one of the two bigger clubs as preferred.

Obviously it's difficult to go and watch Liverpool, but less so Everton. This has been added to by the covid-19 controls which have eliminated the capacity for me to buy a game off season ticket holder friends at Liverpool when they can't go. I think a key thing in Tranmere living within the shadow of Liverpool and Everton is that the club is never a threat albeit Tranmere did reach the Championship playoffs in the 1990's. Whereas Stoke and Port Vale have and can conceivably continue to be rivals in the same division or at one division apart.

One sign of the compatibility of Tranmere with it's bigger neighbours is that the Liverpool Ladies team plays its games at Tranmere.

Reminds me of John Robertson, Forest's fantastic left winger in their European Cup winning team, who was rumoured to light a fag going down the tunnel before the game. Not known for his fitness, he was once the recipient of a friendly chant by Man U fans at the City Ground, "you've got Bunter, Billy Bunter, on the wing". Two crosses and two winning goals later, he took a bow before the away end which was greeted by a hail of coins into the home end. I know because I was there!

How times change.

I remember we signed Roy Vernon from Stoke in the 1960's he was pretty high profile but was rumoured to smoke 60 cigs a day. How times have changed.

Winnable game this one, their home form overall is poor (5 wins and less than a goal a game) and a decent pitch should help us.

We have a half decent record down there as well, just the one league defeat when Slew booted their lad off the pitch and we played the second half with 10 men.

Relegation pain but was still a draw that day and the 2-5 has to be one of the better away days I have experienced.

Draw would be ok to keep the points ticking over but a win here and season is over and we can start to plan and work for next season.

Don't know why but fancy us to win this 0-2.

Sobering thought if you are a Fleetwood supporter. I can't think of any example of this to date. Would it be a first ?

I'm not sure of the specific powers in use. But Abramovitch's Chesea sale proceeds are frozen. This stems from his connections to Putin. I understand he has decided to write off his loans to Chelsea and intends various funds to ultimately go to charity.

In many cases football clubs have become insolvent. So fair enough businesses fail, that is the way of the world. But if it's masked and trading continues when unable to pay debts and / or there is false accounting, then fraud comes into question etc. That's causing loss to others.

I am sure about the smoking bit. I think i've got mixed up with him and another Stoke player that signed for us😳

Wouldn't like to have been in that dressing room Peter Dobing smoked a pipe and as you say Vernon was a 60 a day bloke imagine the smog.....

Back to matters in hand, I'm going for a draw......
