Match Thread: Fleetwood Town v Port Vale

Anyone who was thinking of going to this game on the train - FYI the west coast main line is closed for works for two weeks. Very slow rail replacement buses seem to have filled up the northwest services out of Manchester. It’s just taken me seven hours and three trains to get back from Glasgow, via Edinburgh, York and Manchester.

Can you say that in 2023 😉

It's a noun in British slang. Though I didn't think of the other connotation. I remember many years ago watching a documentary about Hungary and W. Germany where smoking amongst the players was very visible.

The line between Wirral and Cheshire is in Heswall. In the old county that was Ellesmere Port and Neston Bororough. I can drive there in minutes and walking there is pretty straightforward if I felt like it.

Everton and Liverpool fans widely support Tranmere simultaneously as well. My drinking pal is a Liverpool supporter but has a season ticket at Tranmere.

I would call that West Cheshire, definitely not North Cheshire

In the centre, so to speak, the unitary local authorities of Halton and Warrington exist. These came out of Cheshire before the later reorganisation into CWAC and Cheshire East.

Cheshire County Council used to be a hated entity by many of its constituent communities. It had an arrogant culture and was too Chester centric. The current authorities seem much better.

I may have strayed off message a bit!

I don’t see how it’s relevant personally. The reason they succeed is they’re bankrolled by Andy Pilley hence them spending significant sums on Jack Marriott and Jayden Stockley in January. Whether that continues when his fraud trial is concluded we’ll see.

Here's the latest - trial re-scheduled to resume on 13 March.

He liked too many fags?

Reminds me of John Robertson, Forest's fantastic left winger in their European Cup winning team, who was rumoured to light a fag going down the tunnel before the game. Not known for his fitness, he was once the recipient of a friendly chant by Man U fans at the City Ground, "you've got Bunter, Billy Bunter, on the wing". Two crosses and two winning goals later, he took a bow before the away end which was greeted by a hail of coins into the home end. I know because I was there!

How times change.

The Proceeds of Crime Act might allow the seizure of assets in the context of the ownership interests in Fleetwood. Given our suffering in the past from the demise of ownership, I hope Fleetwood and its supporters come through unscathed and find successful ownership in future. Not too successful though because we want to beat them and finish above them in the league.

North Cheshire? can't see anyone from North Cheshire going to watch Tranmere when there are the 2 Manchester clubs, the two Liverpool clubs and Stockport County nearer. There are probably more Liverpool and Everton fans living on the Wirral than Tranmere fans.

By that argument, no-one would bother watching the Vale, they'd all watch Stoke. I have family who are very passionate about Rovers - they are a community based club, very much akin to the Vale.
