Match Thread: Bolton Wanderers v Port Vale

Featured Replies

Worrall now has 8 assists in the league the most in the division. Good that goals are spread out in the team. This is just 1 match we need put a run of games together of say 7 games where we win 4 draw 3 to push ourselves into the top 3 and stop giving stupid goals away.

The negatives are still getting posted. For god's sake we scored 6 AWAY. I expected us to get a good hiding today.WELL DONE JOHN ASKEY AND ALL CONCERNED .

Not taking anything from the players, but Bolton came forward looking to score goals and did not camp in their half, allowing our players to show their qualities going forward.  Can't wait to watch this game in the week.

Even JA said he was concerned about the goals being conceded and the players have played well.

Yes, like green cars  (according to my mum).....lol.

A lot of us look very silly. I've never been in the JA out camp but have rightly questioned things .

My pre-match quote was where's Pope and he's set us up not to lose rather than win.

Exactly the reason we should leave football people too it and stick to here .

One swallow doesn't make a summer though so we have to get minimum of 4 from Colchester and FGR .

Pity Rodders didn't notch but at last he's shown he has got it in the locker rather than headless chicken mode. Needs to push on now.

Gutted wasn't there as would of been one of those I was there moments

Why do we?

Today was great, more than anyone could realistically expect, but it still only makes 3 points from the last possible 18. That's still relegation form. I'll get carried away a little if we put 3 or 4 wins together. Bolton allowed us to be effective, you can't get away from that. That's not to say we didn't attack extremely well today though.

Well what an away day that would have been!

To be honest the negative comments only reflect what the manager has just said in his interview.  We can’t keep conceding goals as we are currently. It’s a genuine concern.  On the flip side, I’d be nice to think that we can be as ruthless in front of goal as we were today. Some of the goals were an absolute joy to watch.

Yeah shame nobody was there today as I reckon we still would have took around 1500 there despite being in poor form and it would have been funny seeing most of there fans leaving when they were 6 1 down.

Even in this game our defence showed they can be beaten and quite easily as well.  Today we put our chances away - this is what we haven't done in previous matches.  The ball has hit our own players or a defender has thrown himself in the way.

It was a great result and I am so chuffed for the team and staff we won.  Like many of Vale fans we all probably thought this was a game we could be stuffed in.  May be Bolton thought that and took us too easily.

There are a few things the players need to sort out in defence and god help the teams we play against when they are sorted.  More matches where we score a hat full will happen.

Manny, Worrall, Rodney, and Montano (with Amoo to return) seems to be a front 4 we could work with. Lots of pace and ability, if maybe lacking the goalscoring 'touch'. It might be worth persisting with Rodney, despite his abhorrent first touch, simply as he's the only forward capable of running channels and causing issues by himself. He has loads of work to do technically, but can be a nuisance.

Job is now to tighten up the back line. If we get that right (and we're still a bit off), we can revive this affair.

Looking forward to watching EFL tonight - first time for a couple of weeks...and on mute, of course, to drown out the appalling Colin Murray and assorted has-beens they use as "summarisers"!

Fantastic win, Vale, JA and team. 6 goals in any game is good going, and to do it away, at a team above us and in great form makes it very special!

"No goals in this team?" "We don't create chances?" oh, dear!

That remains to be seen. I've said all along we have squad more than capable of doing well in this league. If Askey really turns it around for us, and despite what a few twonks like Doha here think I desperately want him to, it will only confirm my pre-season thoughts which were very optimistic.

The quality of League Two at times is horrendous, especially when it comes to defending. If you just get bodies into the box, and take shots, you'll score goals. How many times this season have we been 15 or 20 yards out and instead of having a go at goal, we've just gone sideways or backwards? Today will hopefully remind the players what they are capable of if you attack with intent, and the manager too.

I personally think it's time to give brown a break from the first 11. He's hardly saving any shots in earnest at the moment and was to blame largely for their 3rd. If I was Visser I'd be banging on the managers door

Just wondering if bringing Hurst and Burgess on was a way of them becoming eligible for Tuesday as players who played in the last game.

It’s difficult to be objective about football because it has such an emotional connection.

I suspect that we were not quite as bad a recent form suggested but, by the same token, not as good as today might suggest.

As many have stated there are issues that we need to sort at the back.  Today every effort seemed to go in, instead of deflecting off one of our own players. Perhaps this is just things evening themselves out.
