If the people who know they are going to the game all bought tickets in advance either by going to the club or printing their ticket off at home all did so, then there wouldn't be a big queue at the ticket office for those who decide to go to the game on the day.

For league games the onus is on regular fans who purchase tickets on the day to purchase tickets in advance to make it easier for spur of the moment fans. For cup games this obviously includes season ticket holders.

I'm not sure how police fees are decided now but it would surely also help them to ensure that they don't overstaff and therefore overcharge clubs if a larger proportion of tickets were sold before matchday.

Point I'm making is that several fans on here have been suggesting for ages Vale allow cash on the day turnstiles but they never get their wish.

Ah see what you mean now, I think it probably means they can pay on the day not necessarily cash turnstile.
