Games often hinge on single incidents and this did on two - Rawlinson allowing his man to get goal side of him for the first goal and the non award of what I thought was a nailed on penalty.

 

Still, if they put in more performances like after Manny came on they'll win more than they'll lose.

Well done Vale. Tried and did not give up. What a difference they were when the subs came on. Thought at first we were going to get a good hiding from Sunderland, but you showed the fighting spirit you have now.

 

Was looking forward to hearing from Aspin and the players maybe. But as its Vale and Sjoke, they have cut Vale off. Thanks Radio Sjoke- bet if it had been Sjoke we would have another 3 hours listening to the fans, players and staff after the match.

Have to listen on computer and now playing Paula White. If it had been Sjoke it would still be on all their channels. Was looking forward to hearing from the Manager and possibly the players.

 

Great effort by the players. Sunderland showed their quality and then time management in the later stages of the 2nd half.

Good effort from Vale, hard to win football matches defending like that for the first 25 mins.

 

Surprised the penalty wasn't give, obvious in real time the Sunderland player didn't get near the ball but in slo-mo can perhaps see why ref didn't give it.

 

Pope unlucky with his chance in the 2nd half, nice dink but ball unfortunately hit keepers face, inch ior two higher and it was in.

Think we looked nervy then settled n more so when manny came on as he breaks forward...

Very pleased with our performance, were the better team after Manny came on. Underlines his importance.

 

First half hour was far too negative and they had so much space due to how deep we were set up, and were having joy down the flanks with only our wingbacks to pick them up. Going to a 442 and getting Manny on turned the game on its head, and it was a great goal.

 

Apparently the Hannant penalty should have been given, and Pope had one blocked from 6 yards as well as the Pope/Miller scramble. On another day we nick a replay.

 

Thought Pope was excellent but Smith was man of the match.

 

Disappointed by the Mackems. We were promised a sell-out but instead we got 1600 mute fans. We'd probably take more up there for a replay. "Prepare yourselves for a sellout lads, biggest game of your season" they cried. They brought a few more than Lincoln and made half the noise of Newport.

 

If they're 2nd in League 1, winning their last 6 and not conceding in 4, and we've had them clinging to victory, then we can't be too displeased. If we'd been switched on and more attacking early doors we might have come away with something.

 

Brilliant atmosphere. Maybe we should give lower ticket prices a bash (using the revenue from today + Hugill) and see if we can maintain the noise like todays. UTV

But after a poor start when we just laid off them we did well and troubled them a lot. Cannot understand how their No 11 escaped a caution, we tried to match their workrate. All in all a very enjoyable cup tie.

Well done Vale. Made a good fist of it but the main description as to why we didn't get a replay is described by the word 'robbed' by the referee.

But after a poor start when we just laid off them we did well and troubled them a lot. Cannot understand how their No 11 escaped a caution, we tried to match their workrate. From Manny's introduction onwards we were far more dangerous.

 

A penalty not given, and that Pope/Miller mess which baffled me as to how it didn't go in.

 

They kept the ball pretty decently but there was a spell from about half time to 65 where they were on the ropes. After that, they shut the game down and brought on Maja who was an excellent target man, allowing them to relieve pressure.

 

Woeful away support too.

Radio Joke have hit an all time low. Expected to be be listening to the phone in after the match and THEY decide not to have one. I’ve phoned them to ask why, and they say it’s because of it being a Sunday and to fit in around the program scheduling. Absolute crop. Don’t Sjoke ever play on a Sunday? They manage to fit it in to the schedule then, don’t they? They have FM, DAB and MW, yet still can’t accommodate a post match phone in Had the nerve to ask me to phone P&G tomorrow, patronising git.

At least the president has been set, no more Lardies on a Sunday afternoon then eh?

The way we set up with a back five and Joyce also very deep means the best we can hope for is to not concede. When we do concede early it makes these tactics shambolic.

We gave them a good game once we went 442 and should have got a replay. The usual awful referee that is the norm. Maybe if Hannant had kicked the grass and gone down he would have stood more chance of getting a penalty.
