Match Thread: Port Vale v Chesterfield

Remember folks, if we lose today it’s not all bad news. Yes, it might mean we drop into non-League, causing attendances to plummet further and arguably hastening the extinction of the club, but at least there will be a nice new bar on the Railway Paddock :banghead:

Does the season end today?

Chesterfield winning last week will have boosted their confidence, of course.

It also makes them less desperate for a win.

From their perspective, a draw today would keep things ticking on nicely.

2 home wins, 2 away draws and 8 points from the last 5 games, just what is needed.

It could be argued that this goes in our favour.

Both teams are playing well and are probably believing that they have enough to stay up, so both would be OK with a draw as this keeps things moving towards safety.

I think a draw is the most likely outcome.

They only have 3 home games left compared to 6 away, so they'll probably see this as a must win away game.

Their teenage goalkeeper on loan from Bournemouth is from Chesterton apparently.

He's had a couple of shockers when I've seen their goals on telly. We should be looking to put him under pressure.

Thats correct. He was the England under 19 keeper when they won the Euros. Was transferred from Sheff Utd to Bournmouth for a million and is now getting league experience at Chesterfield. I understand he did let a couple of dodgy ones in early in his loan but is playing well now (unfortunately!!)
