I once heard a story in the past of them googling a players stats from the bench before they brought him on as they weren't sure if he'd played in the cup competition in an earlier round.

If a club has scouted a player isnt it within the realms of possibility they have done at least some homework on him... who/when/where he played?...

 

Indeed there would be more than one person culpable if that’s the case, it would simply be a case of universal failure from people in and out of the club.

The longer this goes on without any official statement then people may start thinking its more and more serious.Even if it is a small issue the lack of news can lead to big concerns.

I'm not outraged by the clubs lack of comment. Do clubs really need to keep fans in the loop on everything? I don't think so.

 

Edit: If anything is going to happen then surely it has to be before next weeks cup game v Shrewsbury. Given that he played in the last group game v Crewe.

IF its as serious as some are suggesting which could have serious consequences then the club should at least put out some sort of official statement about what the issue is.This would then quash and put to bed any rumours that could be way off the truth and damaging.I hope thats is something very small that will have little impact on the club.Then everyone will have nothing to be concerned about(even if there is nothing that fans can do)

If theres an illegibility issue (as we are supposing there is) then I doubt the club will issue a statement whilst the FA are dealing with it. I think the statement will come when / if any sanctions are announced.

Given the history of statements by the club/chairman I hope to god they dont.

If there is, as most people seem to be speculating, a problem, knowing about it wont change it. Fans speculation wont change it, reduce or inflate its importance or consequence.

What needs to happen is that the people who deal with such things do so in a timely manner and the fans informed... then we can speculate about apportioning blame, who did or didnt do what, when and why.

I would imagine that the cup competition is more difficult to sort out because if it was a disqualification then they've got to sort out who fromt our group goes forward instead. Or maybe that result becomes null and void and we change position in the table?

I would say the way they would sort that out is to just give Shrewsbury a bye. Shrewsbury have just been kicked out of the FA youth cup for fielding an ineligible player. We still don't know if we have actually transgressed.

Did'nt we nearly play a ineligible player 2 or 3 seasons ago, came to light on the coach on the way down to the ground... we all blamed Lodly?

I think you’re right. I think we almost played Joe Davis in an FA Cup match despite him playing an FA Cup game for Luton (whilst being on loan there) in an earlier round.

It could well be that the club has been told not to make any statement whilst the league investigates the case.
