Matchday Thread: Newport C v Port Vale

Their number 3 was good value for a pantomime baddie. It would be dead boring without a bit of that stuff.

Pope's defensive work was excellent as usual. He's really good at defending corners and was more dominant than the taller Anderson from corner-kicks from Newport. Anderson though was excellent....a no-nonsense centre half who knows what he's good at and sticks to it.

That pitch was installed this summer and cost £750k. They were robbed.

How many games would need to be postponed and moved for us to lose that amount of money? It seemed like we were one of the worst over the last few seasons for games being called off. Sure there was a week when we were the only game in the country off. How much is a decent winterproof pitch these days?

As things stand, we're back in the bottom two as Morecambe have just scored for the first time in four home games. Crewe also winning. So let's hope Barnet slip up and Wycombe manage to come back. Shows what a dire position we're in and how important last night's draw may prove to be at the end of the season.

They play rugby on the pitch as well and it was paid for by the Welsh RFU I believe.

Even though we've massively improved recently the half time scores are demonstrating how far we still have to go to get to safety. Every game's a 6 pointer in effect.

At least we are in a group of 5 separated by 2 points instead of being cast away with the Spires.

Thought our deliveries were very poor last night, yes they had 2 on Pope last night but there was really nothing for him to challenge in the box. Our corners were shocking but there deliveries off corners looked dangerous nearly every time including the one which Denton locked on the line. That’s where we were most disappointing last night, I don’t know if Denton had a knock but he did look like the only one who could put a decent ball in last night.

That's why Chris Eagles would be a great addition to the squad. He has different deliveries, bends crosses in, hit's 'em with top spin and pace whereas most of the crosses our current players put in are generally "floated", exceptions being Harness for Vale's 3rd goal at Crawley and Denton's cross for Popey at Exeter (?).

Also, there's no one in the current squad who's a dead ball specialist apart from perhaps Tonge whereas Eagles would fill that void. My comments are a tad harsh but Chris Eagles as a striker of a football is up there with anyone in Lge 2 if not better.

I agree that Eagles had a quality delivery on him. But I think you're really doing a disservice to some of the quality deliveries we've seen for some of the goals we've scored from crosses over the season. And the 2 you use as examples were more hanging crosses than any other I think.

We'll have to agree to disagree on those two examples. I did say I was being a tad harsh.

The Vale attendance was actually higher as at least four of us were in various home ends

We were poor. 1-1 is a good point. First half crap, Pope isolated.

Didnt really start playing until the 83rd minute after Newport were winded after the equaliser.

Positives for me were

1) Aspo got his subs spot on

2) Gibbons

3) Well worked equaliser

I was in the home end too.
