Director of football

But the examples you have quoted are at a completely different level and with huge resources that we simply do not have. I can sort of understand the need at Premier League clubs who's net is spread worldwide in the lookout for player and who's playing staff is huge.

And if the Chairman doesn't trust the judgement of the manager, why the hell did he appoint him in the first place?

I think it's not a case of not trusting I think it's a case of the manager is always going to want more money, more players and more resources. The director of football will ensure the managers request is genuinely a requirement or say no because it's just cheeky attempt to buy themselves out of trouble etc They also oversee the academy to some extent.

Lots of lower league clubs do have these people around the club such as Brian Horton at Southend, Barry Fry at Peterborough, I think McFarland might have done a bit with Burton etc.. they don't run the first team, they are just tweaking the whole football product and there as a resource. Some aren't full time either.

I think it is the best thing to happen to PVFC long term for a long time if we go down this route. I just hope he says yes and comes on board

Completely agree' date=' let's hope Adams and Ainsworth can work together [/quote']

It wont be Ainsworth

It wont be any of Ainsworth, Coleman or Askey, unless Ainsworth/Coleman/Askey apply for the job.

Smurf said in his interview last night that he would not be approaching any manager who is currently employed, however, if a manager who is currently in employment applied for the position and was shortlisted then he would be interviewed.

He then said that he wants to see who applies for the job first and may only approach another club and speak to the chairman about a manager if those who apply aren't suitable (or words to that effect).

I completely agree, we have been crying out for something of the sort, this is excellent news.

DOFs vary greatly dependent upon the size of the club, give continuity when managers change, technical advice to the owners/board etc, oversee coaching, scouting, recruitment, performance, etc. More popular now that lots of clubs are bought by foreign owners who may not be so familiar with the game as were the old-fashioned fan directors running local teams. As in most things it is better to have an expert running a speciality business if the owner has made his money in other business types, and their contribution is in funding and other ways. It takes some of the workload off the manager who can then put more time and effort into winning games.

Bring Adams in steady the ship, Yeovil are crap, we can win there followed by a home game against more ex non league rubbish, we re better than these teams, just need the right captain to boost confidence and get the fit and tactics right.......take our time over the new manager but either Ainsworth, Aspin or Ronnie Moore most of the supposed front runner are not worth having thats why they are out of work tbh.....how about Paul Tisdale, Graham Alexander, real low league sucess stories or Cotterill but dont know if he drop this low tbh.

We dont want half of the useless favourites the bookies have installed tbh

I don't like the role of Director of Football and can't honestly think of a case where it's actually worked. There always seems to be conflict between the Director who's generally an old hand who's been there and done that and wants to do things his way and the manager who has his own ideas. And I'm never sure what the Director of Football role actually means and what he actually does and I get the impression that half the time, neither do they.

And in this particularly case I'm pretty sure that Smurfwaite, a man who admits himself that he doesn't know football, likes the sound of a Director of Football but doesn't have a clue exactly how the new role will fit into the running of the club.

Rudge at sjoke?
