Matchday Thread: Port Vale v Wycombe Wanderers

Really hope Montano is back, I think he could arguably be our most important player this season, certainly going forward. Him and Harness on the wings is fantastic for this league. If De Freitas can add some goals to his game, something which I think he's more than capable of doing, then him alongside Tonge or Pugh in the middle is also a really nice balance. Despite the heavy loss last night I'm very optimistic of the squad Brown has put, and is putting, together. I expect us to beat Wycombe just as long as we match them in effort and application, though acknowledge it won't be a walk in the park.

I can see a 2-0 or 2-1 victory.

out interest what have people seen from the few mins Forrester has played to want them to drop Pope?

My first game is Saturday so I can't say with accuracy. However a few of my mates have been both games so far and say pope seems a little unfit and that forrester had a cracking game last night.

When did he last score one of those things called a goal? Sorry to raise the tricky issue.

Even if Forrester played a full season, he wouldn't get 10 goals I'm afraid.

At the age of 19, he scored 7 in 30 for Bury on loan in League 2, so I'll bet he could (if he can stay fully fit & do the full season obviously). Would definitely stick with Pope & Pyke for now though, with him on the bench in case we need fresh legs 2nd half.

This should be a winnable game but, to my mind, much depends on the formation Brown goes with. Every poster on here who's suggested a team has gone with two up top but in the two games so far, even with six substitutions, Brown hasn't played that once (god knows what the formation was by the end last night with Harness playing everywhere but right wing). Surely he won't go with just Pope alone up front?

We've certainly got the strikers. Forrester impressed me against Leeds and I'd be happy with almost any combination of Pope/Pyke/Forrester/Turner. But 4-4-2 with wide men means dropping either Pugh or Tonge. Will he do it?

I'd predict Pope will score around 15 this season and will be first choice starting around 40 games. Fingers crossed he stays injury free. I expect the other strikers to chip in with goals when they play and would predict Pyke to be top scorer and main man by Christmas. I won't be putting any money on my predictions as I'm usually as reliable at predictions as JJ Hooper is at playing football!
