Please share your thoughts before, during, and after the game in this thread.

Lots of new faces to spot, as they seem to arrive by the day as the first home match approaches. Hope they put on some good perfrmances to build up the points over the next 45 games. Expecting us to be more adventurous on the wide open spaces of vale Park in comparison to the mainly cramped pitches of L2. Can we expect our goals to match the attendance as Luton`s 8 did against their crowd of 8,101? Wishful thinking maybe? Settle for the points and signs of progress and promise will do, anything else is a bonus.

Be happy if we can restrict Akinfenwa...6 goals 2 assists in 8 games against us?

Agreed,be a big test for our defenders this,as i have yet to see a Vale defender who can handle him.

I expect Brown to go attacking at home and set out to be hard to beat away,i am looking forward to this

He cant be getting any younger, and our defence has a bit more weight now, but keep the ball away from him to be on the safe side.

Scored 18 in 51 last year at the age of 34, not bad. Not really sure what the answer is to him, aside from as you say, keep the ball away from him. Can't be a danger as much off the ball as the likelihood is he won't keep up with play.

Good to see we all recognise the problem.

The price they pay for him is poor mobility because 102kg. His threats come outside the box from hold up play and inside the box from physical presence.

To me in hold up play drop off him and pick up his layoffs.

Don't give away cheap free kicks, corners or throw ins round our box.

Then there is a strategic choice. Gunning at left back who has physical presence or an attacking left back - Denton? to get at them down the flanks and an attacking intent in general.

It depends on how Brown sees the overall competencies of the two teams, if we can attack and be dominant then go for it, but if the two teams are otherwise more equal we have to counter Akinfenwa more directly.

Kay

Smith

Denton

Harness

ADF

Tonge

Montano

Pyke

Pope

That on paper looks like a very good side. A thousand times better than last year imo. I'll go for a 2-1 vale win. Popey and ADF to get his first.

We need a high defensive line so he has to run onto things - he can't run so that will help!

And tell Pugh to hold his position in front of him so they can't slip any balls into him to hold up.
