Very sad, the hat trick specialist. Extensive coverage on Wiki. In my mind one of his skills was sliding to touch the ball in for a goal, but he just could not make the one that came from behind Macedo on the line at Fulham in the 5th round. But always fond memories of one of the favourites of the Norman Low era.

We were in Oz when Bert made the short trip from Crewe to Vale Park, but long before that he was one of my dad’s favourite footballers

Really saddened by this news. Along with a few others, Bert was in my all time Vale side on the recent thread. One of the all time greats and the first Vale player who really stood out for me as a nine year old kid watching from the Bycars end with my old dad and my brother. Great player, not the biggest, but one of the best.

Bert was my favourite player I remember the football reports on front of the old sentinel with Llewellyn printed in bold type when he scored RIP Bert.

Sad news one of my earliest memories was watching Bert at Vale Park,it would be nice if he was recognised, Wigan have made the effort.

Reading the header piece I can't help wondering why did we sell a 1in 2 striker for the same fee as we paid for him? Seems like typical poor business by the Vale.

I remember Bert for bundling goalkeepers, and ball over the line to score many of his goals.
