Next England manager?

Recommended Posts

Should be an Englishman.

Sam Allardyce, with Shearer involved in coaching.

Why should it? It should be the best man for the job, look at the rugby team's transformation under Eddie Jones. It's daft annd out dated to think it should be an Englishman, especially when there isn't an English coach good enough

If we go foreign it has to be someone who has successful international experiences. I'd look at either Marcello Lipi, Del Bosque (if he leaves Spain) or make a huge offer to Joachim Löw.

If we go English, and it is very slim pickings, I'd be tempted to go for a former legendary player. He'd be able to keep the egos in check and would know what it takes in a major tournament. Either Shearer or maybe even David Beckham. (Obviously with good coaches behind them.

Exactly. And the list of possible English managers is pretty dismal.

If he has to be English then either Pardew or preferably Hoddle, with someone like Shearer or Southgate as his number two with an eye on taking over after him.

If we're simply looking for the best bloke for the job, as we should be doing, then I would like any of Bilic, Mancini, Benitez (very doubtful now) and perhaps even Roberto Martinez as an underdog. Wonder if Gus Hiddink would fancy a couple of years, or has he retired from management now?

I think Pardew or Allardyce. As much as people have this idea Allardyce plays long ball, they forgot about the Bolton days when they had Gudjohnson, Ricky Gardner and Jay jay okocha. Allardyce makes the best out of the tools available and from monday it seems we have a lot of tools in our side :)

Because let's say we have an Italian manager, and we come up against Italy in a tournament, genuinely, how motivated will he be for England to win. Hand on heart, honestly, I can't see them having the same desire that an Englishman would.

Just my opinion.

You mean like Eddie Jones didn't really want his boys to beat Australia?

Professionalism isn't your thing then...

It's not a great argument is it!

Eddie Jones loved every second of teaching them a lesson- as he loved beating the Boks with Japan and any other game he's won as a coach or player. Winning is his thing and he would never let sentiment get int he way
