The 'other' two

I think you're all looking into this too much, I think from what I've read of the article, Little and Dickov are two OTHER people interested and aren't in the top three

Yes that's how I read it as well. Panic over nothing.

Don't know what you are all prattling on about its going to be Coleman he's mustard!!!

I don't think Coleman is one of the three. If you look at how Smurf has described the candidates, only candidate 2 (the guy who would have got the job before Page) is a possibility to be Coleman. However, if you listen to Smurf's RS interview on Tuesday, he said that the second candidate has got contractual obligations until 21/6 and cannot get into the UK until after then.

I think the Sentinel are wrong there.

For me, the "second candidate" is someone who took another job in Sept 2014 when Adams left. From what I can see the two managers appointed that month were John Coleman and Keith Curle. Out of those it's probably only Coleman who can match Smurf's own description:

"The second candidate is one who I was originally going to consider to appoint when Micky (Adams) left, but regrettably for us he was offered a job he just couldn't turn down. He has excelled in that position."

Dickov didn't take up a role during that time, so it wasn't a "job he couldn't turn down" (he didn't go anywhere) and he hasn't "excelled" - Coleman has done all three things.

Smurf also uses the present tense "has excelled" - which suggests that person is still working there (Coleman) wheras Dickov has been sacked (hardly excelling in the process).

I think Coleman is number 2 - agreed.

The only thing that doesn't fit is the stuff about him being on a good wage. I'm sure NS said that.

But, that apart, he's got a good record lately and would probably be in our price bracket.

From what I've see and read he seems the most likely and I wouldn't be too unhappy if it was him.

I think that's spot in for me, strange assumption by the sentinel in terms of Dickov.

I would think "had excelled" suggests past - "has excelled" suggests present.

You may be right Rob... to me has suggests not now, at another time.... whereas is excelling is present

but then english was my worst subject at school

I personally would be happy with Coleman. I know he failed at Rochdale but if he's given the chance and is a proper, long-term appointment I think he could be ideal. For me, there's a lot to be said for consistency and not changing the manager every five minutes (in fact all three local club's best spells have come when they kept faith with a long-term managerial appointment).

For me, Coleman has worked wonders at Accrington, clearly has the eye to be able to spot a player and plays the right style of football. He seems to be low maintenance and low profile and hopefully would be ambitious enough to step up to a League One club.

Did I hear Smurf right in describing one of the candidates as being recommended by or being put forward by people from the FA. That immediately put me in mind of a younger coach, of the likes of Phil Neville for instance who never had a management role before.

Another couple of points on the Sentinel's claim and NS's comments that don't add up

NS says first candidate was said to have managed "abroad." Little is with Jersey but is that really "abroad" - it was part of the UK last time I checked...

NS says Vale won't be appointing a "journeyman" but don't both Little and (to some extent) Dickov fit that description?
