I would be more concerned if he was happy about losing his place, and prepared to just pick up his wages. Decent player in my opinion who we have tried to replace several times but he has always won his place back. I wouldn`t rule out him doing it again because Purkiss last season was skinned twice at Walsall by that skillful footballer Dicko.

It is disrespectful to Adam Yates, if I'd have been Purkiss I would have "turned down" the No 2 shirt in favor of Yates, team spirit/team building etc.

No it isn't disrespectful at all. If purkiss is going to play then he should have the number 2. Makes perfect sense. Yates should wake up and realise not fortunate he is to have a contract at a league 1 side.

Yes let's bash Yates for no reason what so ever.

Is this a Vale fans forum ?

No reason , he's wining because he can't have a number he wants on his shirt! Isn't his priority to the team and not his own selfishness, he's acting like a spoilt 6 year old , what's he going to do hold his breath until he gets it back? He's making himself sound like a right breast.

It's alright to bash birchall though....

It is not alright to bash any club employee who is not breaking any rules, damaging the clubs name or not giving full effort.

The only players who deserve a 'bashing'(and then verbally not literally) are players who do things like Suarez biting, players who throw matches, give racist salutes and things like that.

Fans constructive criticism of players - saying they need a rest, or to recharge their batteries or are being played out of position - that stuff is fine, but some have gone way beyond this with on here with players like Birchall, Yeats and even Pope more recently. These players have been dedicated servants to the club and if they have a bad spell they know it and don't need unnecessary personal abuse.

Both Yates and Birchall played for the club for no wages during the admin period, so let's not question their loyalty. As a professional sportsman I would expect him to be competitive by nature, and would see losing the shirt as a sleight. I know I would so I can fully understand the reasoning. His big mistake is being honest with the press or naive enough to think it's ok to mention it to them. I haven't heard the whole interview, so I'm not sure of the context. Let's be honest about this Neither Radio Stoke or The Sentinel are really interested in the Vale except to fill a few blank spaces.
