Maybe people just disagree with his comments???

what's wrong with his comments?

He's a professional sportsman so he should by nature be competitive.

Nothing wrong with stating your ambition and wanting to keep what you have.

I'd be very disappointed if any of our players weren't upset with being seen, to be dropping down the pecking order.

Ones been a good servant to the club , the other stole a contract and moaned about his wages.

So your previous point about bashing players was completely hypocritical then.... Birchall has been just as good a servant to this club as Yates if not better. Personally both are very lucky to have a deal. I do like how you find it ok to bash birchall but if someone says a bad word about Yates it's considered wrong.

I'm not saying we should...

G4e reguarly slags birchall off so I was wondering why it's any different for Yates.

That says more about the poster (not v-593 but the other 'gentleman' ) than either player. Hopefully these players will realise that the vast majority of Vale fans appreciate their efforts and do not feel the need to undermine their value to the club.

Adam Yates has improved as a player the last few seasons and is credible at league 1 level. He has also served the club well. When he has had to compete for his place that has driven his improvement - e.g. against Duffy. Nonetheless defending was a serious weakness last year with three obvious weaknesses - not defending crosses, being out muscled at set plays and making individual errors giving the ball away. It would also help going forward to have two really good crossers at fullback and Yates is average at that. These need to be addressed and that is why players have come in. But I hope he steps up and gets a wedge of games in due course.

I don't have a problem with Yates as such; personally I think he's done as well as anyone in the RB slot, although others might want to take issue with me on that. But my issue with him is that he should have taken it on the chin and got on with winning a regular place in the side instead of whinging.

I've got no problem with Yates getting annoyed by this. Surely it would be worse if he didn't give a stuff?

I've got a feeling he'll end up as our regular right back anyway. For me, he gets far too much unwarranted grief. He's not spectacular but he's certainly not a bad player by any stretch.

It would be much better if it was still 1 to 11 and the players in the squad had to earn one of those numbers come match day and then keep it.

Just my opinion.
