But replacing him won't be a cake walk. His bustling 100% effort and ability to hold up the ball and create space for others, as well as score goals, will be sorely missed.

It's a case of "The King is dead...long live the King"! I don't think he will do that well, personally - I think it was obvious towards the end of the season that he wasn't as good as 2 years before, playing in a lower league!

Best of luck to Pope (apart when Bury play us) as he's found a club who believe he's worth a 3 yr deal and a similar or increased contract financially compared to the one at Vale. I've much gratitude for what Smurf has done for Vale and have been a supporter of Rob Page but I must admit I'm beginning to wonder what the future is for the Vale and if this Pope fiasco is a result of a relatively inexperienced football Chairman together with a Rookie manager. Please prove me wrong gentlemen and sign two quality strikers, two quality central defenders, O'Connor and Marshall and the additional quality players ready to go straight into the first team promised a month or so ago.

Not bothered lost interest paid £532 for My Utd season ticket, absolutely ****ed if I'm paying 2-300 quid to watch another season of Dodds, Yates and Williamson.

If Pope's gone I would guess that it's a near certainty that Marshall will be off.

We have a long shot with O'Connor but there are half a dozen clubs closer to his home than we are so I'm not holding my breath with him. He was also a friend of Pope's.
