Port Vale 3 - Shrewsbury 1 Post Match Discussions

Ben Williamson also deserves credit and played very well today . I would have brought on hugill for pope and kept willo on.

Agree with this 100%. Nothing on Pope but Ben was holding the ball up well, being quick and powerful. Didn't get many chances but still came close, playing in a deeper role. After he went off it took about 5 minutes for us to be able to hold the ball up the pitch again.

Maybe Williamson and Hugill could work? They seemed to play well together against Crawley and I thought they ignited us when they came on against Shortwood.

Specsavers for you sir. I have never never ever in my life seen someone miss so many tackles. One day he will catch one of the shadows he keeps chasing .

Cobblers - I think it's you who needs to get up to Hanley for an eye test. Without Griff in the 2nd half they'd have scored more than one.

I love you Lefty:wub: Finally someone noticing what I have been droning on about for one and a half seasons.

I have to agree. Against Shortwood apart from his goals (which he took very well) he was average at best. His goal today really shows why he infuriates people at times. He got his head down, ran from one end to the other without thinking of the defender and scored a cracker. He could do this every time if he just paid more attention to just running at the defence, as opposed to the defenders themselves.

Sorry but Williamson just doesn't look like scoring, he runs around a lot but the end product is missing.

with regard to him and Hugill together you must have short memories because the two of them made no impression against Gillingham and it took our battering ram Mr Pope to turn the game around.

I think Pope and Hugill could be a great partnership though.

P.S My hero Popey should have scored two today but I know that he will be giving it 100% in every game he plays.

enjoyed the game thought we were outstanding first half but we were second best for most of the second half. Could not get my head around the substitutions but at the end of the day it all worked out well for MA. Well done and thanks.

A little harsh as I thought he was decent today but his defending for their goal was very poor. Its alarming how many goals we concede down his side of the field of play.

I don't think I'm being harsh. You've said yourself that his defending for the goal was poor & that a lot of goals are conceded down our left.

The fact remains that Dicko was caught out of position a number of times today when he kept drifting in field. I noticed that when they broke down the right on at least 4 occasions Dicko was actually closer to the penalty spot than the touch line. He gave their wide midfield player acres of space & that put us under pressure for most of the 2nd half.

Two Dodds fans agreeing how infuriating JMW is. That's amazing!

It's really encouraging that we have goals coming from all over the pitch and are certainly not struggling in that department. Teams which can't find the net are those that end up towards the foot of the table, but we have riches indeed in the calibre of our strikers. It's a long time since I can remember Vale having such a wealth of goalscoring talent, plus the midfield and defenders getting in on the act too.

Williamson, Pope, Hughes, Hugill, JMW and Dodds could all be relied on to get into double figures given decent runs, then add Loft and Lines into the mix and we have an impressive amount of firepower.

Those dreadful, drab games in L2 a few years back are fading into the oblivion they deserve to occupy.

I dont want to detract from the excellent position we are in so will end it here. Just to say , read the other posts and then get a video of the game. He was shocking.

Whilst I agree today wasn't Griff's best performance, people forget about some of his best work. When Vale are defending a dangerous corner, u can bet Griff gets his head to it. The number of corners he clears is incredible. Just a small part of his work but vital nonetheless.

Don't let that stop the Griff bashing though. The fans taking part think a match is only won or lost up front though.

Duffy at centre half was an absolute revelation today. Strong, intelligent and mobile. I've never rated him at RB but looks like excellent partner for Robbo at CB.

Hugill is a real prospect. I love his confidence. He came on and within a minute or so turned inside and hit a shot with his left foot that was blocked. He could have scored before his goal too with a side foot that was blocked inside the area. His goal was real quality. So composed to bring it from his right to left foot then curl it in.

Loft as ever was immense. Putting my head on the block but for me he's one ofthe top 5 midfielder in this division and can play at a higher level.

Shrewsbury were better second half but never really put Vale under any real pressure. Their ball retention was better than ours but going forward, we were by far the more dangerous team.

Excellent 3 points. Well done everyone.

Absolutely 1005 agree with you mate about Lofty.

As most n here know by now I am one of his biggest fans and was very upset when some suggested at the end of last season that he would not make the grade in Division 1!!!!

Well suck on that you lot, you haven't a clue what's best for Vale.

He is becoming a mighty factor in Vale's progress and alongside Lines we have a couple who would grace higher divisions, for certain.

We just need to find another midfielder to replace Grif(sorry mate but you really are not up to standard in this Division) and we 'll have a Team that can compete with the top lot.

I personally would spend whatever money Norm can afford, whenever he's allowed to so we can get that missing cog in the centre of the park and then watch us go!!!

Love you Vale, made my day today.

Who would we play in the middle with lines? It seems loft is better in a wider position, and lines plays better next to an enforcer type player. If we had a choice between bringing in a centre half or midfielder, would we bring a midfielder as Duffy is an option in defence?
