Calvin Andrew statistics

Now is the time for getting over the finishing line, not holding inquisitions, Adams decisions baffle me sometimes but he is the manager we are 2nd and other teams must have the same selection queries. Now is the time for FULL AND UNRESERVED support for whoever pulls on the shirt for the remaining games not negativity

Could not have said it better myself.

There's been loads of posts on here recently slating Calvin Andrew, so I thought I'd look back through the time he's been here to see if the statistics show anything either way. It might give us more to go on that just the usual "I think he's cack" / "well I trust Micky" arguments.

  • Calvin Andrew has made 23 Vale appearances, 8 starts and 15 appearances from the subs bench.

  • He's scored one goal, a deflection from Doug Loft's shot against Torquay.

  • In the games he's started, we've lost 5, won 2 and drawn 1 (today, when we actually lost 2-1 if you count just his time on the pitch). Factoring this ratio over the whole of a season would put us on 40 points and in 24th place, bottom of the league.

  • In the 15 games he's come on as a sub, he hasn't had a positive impact in any of them; we haven't scored any goals after he has come on. He has had a negative impact in 2 games (Sheffield United away and Rotherham away) when we conceded 3 goals after he's come on.

  • 3 times when he's started, he's been subbed very early and we've done better without him (Fleetwood at home subbed on 57 mins, lost 2-0 with him but drew 0-0 without him; Exeter at home, subbed on 46 mins, lost 2-0 with him but drew 0-0 without him; Chesterfield away (today), subbed on 64 mins, lost 2-1 with him but won 1-0 without him).

I've no idea how he can justify any more time on the pitch with those stats.

Brilliant stats don't lie print and post to Adams. He tries his best bless him. It's more worrying for me in what our manager sees when signing a player. But you are all right lets park this until the close season lets just roar on Calvin Andrex and the team to promotion.

See, we're getting into a sensible discussion about it now, which is great. I'll admit, I was a bit mean saying that the stats show he had no positive impact - I meant that as a forward, the team haven't scored whenever he's come on as a sub. He might have a bit more about him defensively, but is that what we need from a forward?

Someone said that he's been possibly been bought on to protect a narrow lead, but there has only been one game (Gillingham away) when he did that successfully, compared to two (Sheffield United and Rotherham) where he came on and we conceded. The other 12 sub appearances have either been comfortable wins (eg 4-0 v Plymouth, 3-0 v Accrington and Wimbledon) that didn't really need an extra defensive presence or draws and losses where he did nothing to change the outcome.

He's part of the squad and if Micky picks him, I'll be supporting him to do his best; I certainly wouldn't boo him. However, I would dearly love to understand why Micky thinks so highly of him when my opinion is that he's garbage.

So what??? There is always 10 other players on the pitch & while he wears a Vale shirt he gets my support. Singling out individuals is non-productive and reflects badly on the team - you'll learn that on any management course.

For the record I think he did ok today and was by no means the worst player on show.

I don't think you need to be defensive about your post. Andrew was brought in as a forward and yet his goalscoring record must be one of the worst in the league (11 in 172) and so it's not surprising that his credentials should be under scrutiny. When he was signed I thought it would be as emergency back up to Popey, not to play alongside him. What I can't understand is why Micky ever plays them together as there's no evidence or sign that this would ever work.

This is nothing personal against the lad. He looks and sounds like a loyal, hardworking team player - just the kind Micky likes. He was at Brighton where he scored three in six appearances so this might partly explain Micky's liking for him. I agree that we should get behind the whole team but his selection ahead of so many better players in the squad is bound to raise questions when we need every point we can muster.
