Summer transfer rumours/speculation and retained list

The issue with Sheriff isn't necessarily his finishing and composure. That can come with training and experience. The main factor holding him back currently is his lack of aggression and strength given his size. If he can add some aggression to his game, he could be a real handful.

Chopper. Two questions.

Do you see the Vale pushing for an immediate return to div 1 ?

What length of contract do you see the above players being offered ?

We have already heard that the Vale need to have a ' plan for the football club .' Not sure what that will be but it was also mentioned about development of young players and making their way into first team plans. In other words, developing our own first team players rather than transfer fees etc every year. Will the plan be agreed and in place before decisions are made ?

Cannot see any sense in offering the above players two year deals and then see us getting promoted with several players tied into contracts. One year deals, if offered, may not be accepted and they may look for a two year elsewhere for their own security.

I would like to think that we will be pushing for promotion next season. For me Jon Brady talks a very good game. He is passionate and it almost sounds like he is fan when he is doing his interviews. Some fans seem to have written him off already from reading some posts on this forum. I don’t get that personally. He needs a summer transfer window and hopefully he will be backed by Carol and will spend the money wisely on some decent signings. I would offer Croasdale a two year deal and maybe Connor Hall as well. I don’t think RC has ever let us down and hopefully Brady can get the best out of him next season.

The main difference between a Darren Moore side and Jon Brady side is that a Darren Moore team is hoping that it can get hold of the ball and win games. A Jon Brady team goes out there fighting to win the ball and win games. Let’s hope he can get them all fired up for promotion next season.

Hackford was better.

Wimbledon fans don't seem to think so.

I didn't say he was good, but he's certainly better.

Do you remember the early part of this season, when a good few OVF pundits had firmly decided that Ben Waine was useless and a complete waste of a signing?

But he kept working at his game, was then given chances and took them excellently.

By definition, inexperienced players are … inexperienced.

That doesn’t automatically mean that they are raw, therefore they can’t get better.

A section of the Vale fans are notoriously quick to jump to judgement.

I see a lot of potential in Martin Sherif.

He may or may not fulfil that potential, but if he’s not given the chance then he certainly won’t.

Waine had a purple patch around the time of our FA Cup exploits. I'd argue he'd gone back to more like his early season performances since then.

I would definitely like to see Martin Sherif on a full season's loan next season.

His size makes people forget that he is a 19-year-old kid who has played about 1200 minutes total of men's pro football.

His recent games show me that he is being coached to assert himself more, and there is definitely a good footballer in there to be developed further.

I agree.

That’s what I was suggesting in the original post.

And that’s what I already see starting to develop.

Ben Waine isn't very good. He has scored 2 very important goals & gives 100%, but he's an average L2 striker at best.

Sherif is also not very good.

Let's not be easily pleased.

The football side of Port Vale has been catastrophically mismanaged since Andy Crosby was given the job permanently.

As a football club we are soft. Poor performance is tolerated for too long. All the off field improvements are fine, but all that matters is results on the pitch - everything else is added extras.

The Shanahans 'saved' us and have invested heavily - but next season we will still be a L2 club which is where they found us.

Things need to improve.

Sherif gets into veery good scoring positions then doesn't score.  The reason is because he is veery young and gets over-excited.  He needs to be coached and slow down in those situations then we would have a good player.  If Rudgie was 20 years younger he'd turn him into a million pound player.

Rudgie would not have signed him in the first place.

Waine has scored 8 goals in 91 games, we need better and not get carried away with his cup goals.....Watch him get a hat trick against Wigan 😀

Good well thought out post.

In his defence he's only 19. Again, can that be coached into him. He does seem to scare the bejesus out of defenders and keepers from what I've seen.

I wish I had been a not good enough footballer to play for my country...

We've got people who have posted on here in the past saying we should sling off Shorrock and Walters and I had seen the rare post being happy Dipepa went -- so definitely agree there's an aspect of fans out there that just aren't patient or understanding with young players, thinking they should be better than their peers already who have years of experience on them.

I'm ambivalent on Sherif myself, don't have much of an opinion - except to say if he isn't staying or a target for next season, then that pains me that he is seen as our best available in the squad right now  - it doesn't paint the best picture of the ones under contract. I will wait to see what happens in the transfer window (and wait to see players play before judging)

Lets not forget that there were a few on here that said Dipepa was only National league North level which shows how much SOME of our fan base know about football

I just hope that when Brady does decide to play youth players we as fans give them time
