Also, Sheff Weds in 22/23 when they finished with 98 points which, in any other normal season, would have been an easy 1st place:

After 15 games - won 9, drawn 3, lost 3. 30 points. Exact same record as us.

I don't often agree with you Joe, but here you are spot on. There is a massive overreaction when we lose - and to be fair it's usually from the same few who just want to be noticed.

We are a very good side at this level - no team wins every game, even Man City have just lost a few on the spin. We have lost several players through injury who would be walking into the side.

If everyone's fit I don't think Moore picks that team yesterday. I think Sang goes into defence, Heneghan is dropped, Garrity and Croasdale play together and Hart or John plays left wing back.

My only criticism of the available players yesterday was picking Richards over Tolaj, who then should have come on at half time instead of Chislett.

But let's not forget they were tipped to be up there at the start of the season, and have a big squad too. They were missing Nevitt, Rowe and Dack, but crucially had more midfielders on their bench who could impact the game than we had and that was where it was won.

Ultimately we are still top and are probably going to be around the automatic promotion places come the end of the season. I think the overreaction comes from some snarky little snakes who just want attention. Yet they'll be the first ones at the promotion party saying they backed the manager all along.

Do you have a soft spot for Stoke? Just asking as you seem to mention them an awful lot mate 😅

Yes, I’ve been completely brainwashed by the Radio Stoke coverage.

Good post Granville .

Why are  folk snakes if are concerned about losing .

We had 0 attempts on target yesterday .

Did you really enjoy that game .

Another Mr confused

Why we playing with 7 defensively minded players .

Answer thst one .

It's league 2 not premiership

Put more attacking players make it a enjoyable watch as folk who spent say 100 plus yesterday will surely not be happy with what they saw.

Overall everyone's happy Mr Confused .

Do not have a pop at folk who love the Vale .

The whole point of a forum is debate .

What can we do better .

Where was yesterday's game lost .

Etc etc etc .

I have a gut feeling our run ends today.

This isn't because we're bad - we'll probably play pretty well again, as we're a good team with some really good players for the level. I think Garrity has recently begun excelling in the spoiler role and his presence will be missed.

There's a lot of variance in the 4th tier and the odd bounce can swing a result either way. We're winning a lot of games by tight margins and eventually we'll be on the wrong end of them. Them's the breaks. For every bit of fortune we clock up in Wimbledon spurning 3 good chances in succession late on, we're probably going to have to pay Lady Luck back later in the season.

Gills on a rubbish run, but they're losing some games by the odd goal and, again, that can flip with the rub of the green. They had 26 shots to 4 against Newport and lost 2-0. They drew against Swindon with an xG of 1.37-0.36. They're not getting battered. They'll end up winning a game because that's football.

Just got the feeling today. Most in-form vs most out-of-form. It would be a big 'eye-catching' result and a lot will react to it - I usually would. Just think variance is going to go against us eventually and today is possibly the day.

I get loads wrong and still saw yesterday coming quite obviously. I can't believe anyone was even mildly shocked! We're a League 2 football club on an unsustainable run of form and eventually the luck (penalty/Stockley miss) goes against you rather than for you.

Having seen the highlights back that penalty decision is a shocker, the keeper takes him out with both hands and if he doesn’t Ronan has an empty net. Terrible.

That said Stockley missed a chance that was easier to score than miss and you’d put your house on him scoring so he does that we probably park the bus see out a 1-0 and we would be talking about a great away masterclass again so it’s fine margins. We’ve been on the right side a few times and this time we fell the wrong side.

We do seem to be great playing the footballing sides but struggle more against the direct, physical or dark art masters and it’s something we do need to crack as the season gets on, especially now teams will respect us more with our league position etc.

It may be time to bring Smith back into the fold as a pure defender and battler for those kind of games where we need someone who can give it back, throw in his dark art mastery.

I agree with that. I only watched the second half yesterday but after the stockley miss you could tell we wouldn’t score. A point would’ve been a good result how the game panned out. I don’t particularly think we looked under threat either they perhaps wanted to score more but we dealt with it reasonably well untill their goal. Jesse should’ve got to the ball first and headed it away.

we got away with the win against Wimbledon when they battered us for twenty mins. Yesterday we didn’t. These things will happen. We’re top and have a chance to put it right next week. Good (promoted) sides will bounce back and go and claim all three points next week. I have every faith we will do.

I had a feeling pre-game that yesterday may have been the game to end the impressive run.

Arguably, that is the worst we’ve played all season, and even then, we still looked steady. I think the officials got the penalty shout wrong, but I am obviously bias, and Stockley should have buried his chance - if either of them factors go our way, we are probably having a different conversation.

We’ve got a great chance next weekend to get back to winning ways against a poor outfit in Morecambe.

Because we're not going to be great every week, we're a league two side and will have off days! Football isn't this "let's go for it" game it used to be even at this level. There are tactics involved and if you don't adapt you get beaten because players are inconsistent at taking on information and in their performance.

Players who are better at that are higher up the pyramid and even if we could afford them why would they come to a league two club?

We will get better, we will improve, we have to accept defeats without coming out with ridiculous overreaction.

I do like your enthusiasm and posts, but you are just as guilty when it comes to that. We are not a bad side and havent transformed into one on the basis of a defeat to a team in a higher division in the cup and to a team who are in a false league position who were better on the day than we were. That said, my comment was more aimed towards those who are quiet when we win but only come out of the woodwork when we lose. You post every week win, lose or draw so that isn't directed at you.

Those same people who will criticise the manager, and players, for one bad performance out of 11, will then be at the front of the queue for the open top bus when we go up. It's the hypocritical nature of it that annoys me.

poor subs and tactics . injuries. bad day at the office. can pick from any of those 4. we have to move on quickly and respond and im sure we will.

onto morecambe!

Tactics away from home have been the same in the last 4 games and we’ve returned 9 points so can’t argue too much against the tactics. Subs I’ll give you, they made a massive part in losing the game but I don’t know how Moore could have changed the starting line up without changing the tactics certainly if you exclude Smith and the players we’ve loaned out.

Possibly started Tojal or Paton instead of Rico but apart from that I don’t think the initial line up was too bad. Overall too many under par performances throughout the team & just a bad day all round. As you say the subs were wrong & a tad to late

Bugger, I've been rumbled on the Gills forum. 😂

1 goal attempt they had and scored Shorrock and Debrah switched off .

Absolutely overall very poor display today.

Play like you want win

Playing for a 0-0 when folk travelled all that way

Looked leggy to me today .

Defence very good apart from the 2 players mentioned above

A very poor days work from Vale going forwards which is what should be our strength .

There is no way we went there for a 0-0 just because we had no shots on target doesn't mean we went for a 0-0(we aren't colchester and the like) sometimes a team does a job on you and they did just that,Stockley missed a fantastic chance, had that of gone in then things would be totally different right now
