The problem is not converting the chances we do make - only 31% converted to goals from any position. As Garrity is proving - and he did in our promotion season - no team should have to rely on strikers to score goals!

The sign of good goalscorers , higher conversion rate from wherever they come from, agreed. The point I would like to make is that just as defence isnt just the defenders job so goal scoring isnt purely down to strikers. However Smithies day job is a defender , its where his skills are and its his primary function. Strikers also defend but their day job is scoring goals. Popey was a great bonus at defensive corners but his primary role was to score goals and its what he was judged on and best remembered for.

Would our conversion rate be higher if we had 2 decent striking goalscorers doing their day job and scoring goals. Are our conversion rates low because we are relying on having people trying to score when scoring isnt their primary function/ skillset ?. Its exceptional to have a team packed with wingers and midfielders who contribute 10/12 goals per season, most teams are lucky to have 1.

Also if you have a midfielder scoring 10/12 goals per season then he is as valuable an asset in that position as a 20 goal a season striker. Yes I know we have Garrity who looks like he will do that again this season. How long will we have him for, who knows. Im sure he is already on bigger teams radar.

You are right We shouldnt have to rely on a striker, we only play one, to score goals, its the four / five midfield players and the lone striker that are failing week after week. Garrity apart.

I honestly dont see any of our players having goals in them. Look at our options out wide. Nothing. Look at Chislett and Devine, exceptional goal when they score one but 3 a year is no good to us. Arblaster and Ojo, both start deep and will never score goals. Do we need two ?

Think the balance of our team is completely wrong, You need players who are goal scorers but they cost money and we dont have it.

Are young loan players the solution to key roles in the team.

Honestly I think the cup run is disguising the dreadful league form. I went today and despite all that possession in the second half I think the only time I got out of my seat was to get a Bovril. As someone posted earlier I don't know what to think at the moment but the possession doesn't equal excitement in my opinion.

I am sad to say I left with almost 6 minutes to go and before then I just sat there waiting for something to happen our defence looks bereft of ideas and attack what attack ? I have  seen Crosby’s interview and now expect him to be removed of his responsibility

All this talk of stats and possession is all fur coat and no knickers we are crap at scoring and now defending there's a good side there on paper we just need someone who can a tune out of em.
