Carol's to blame also. Won't invest in decent strikers or a proven manager. She needs to sell to the autonet bloke before he loses interest. Carol won't, though, because, in my opinion, she likes the kudos of owning a football club. All the T.V interviews, 5 live, etc, and the hospitality perks. Haven't seen her much on Telly lately...

When the owner has a wage limit on strikers that he has to work within what is he supposed to do? It should be noted that the wage limit is a lot lower than most other teams in this league.

I don't disagree, I'm not a Flitcroft hater/basher, I think by enlarge he's done a decent job, I was more making the point that however we dress it up the forward recruitment has fallen short in league one so far(whether that's for a reason(budget, bad luck with injuries) ultimately won't matter if we get relegated as we'll lose more money in the long run) but it saw us collapse last season and we are now in a similar position to when Clarke was sacked 6-9 months ago, nervously looking over our shoulder at the wrong end of the table so something isn't going well in that department.

Would we say most teams in league one have bigger budgets than us? I'd say Vale are about avg all things considered.  I've always said if we can't compete with the likes of Shrewsbury, Cambridge, Exeter et al(I could probably name half the league) in terms of potential new signings we may as well throw the towel in at this level.  Obviously there are many different variables as some teams will overspend(Fleetwood maybe an example of that based on their fanbase) but then you get others like Reading who have a good fanbase but are in the fertiliser currently due to mismanagement off the pitch it would seem.

It's all right we've won the 'playing well between both boxes cup' need to get it in the mixer. Tippy tappy ain't working. He really is stubborn, is our Crosby. It's going to cost him his job.

I thought we played direct quite a bit at Lincoln. I agree, the direct approach sometimes works and we should mix it up, problem we have though is we don’t have much pace up front with Uche on his own and if Loft comes on we have nothing up front, to play more direct we must have 2 up front which includes pace and someone who can hold it up. Don’t know if it’s because he’s not in his best position but I’ve been disappointed in Plant in the last half dozen games or so, he very rarely beats a man and he’s not putting decent balls in to the box. If we had 2 quality wing backs we could potentially play more direct down the line but we haven’t so I don’t think that would work either.

Its likely that the cost of forward recruitment was hampered by the need to remediate the pitch during the summer. I'm no QS or expert on sport turf surfacing but based on my own experience in civil engineering the cost of plant and aggregate, not to mention specialist consultant expertise would probably have run into several hundreds of thousands. This outlay has probably impacted player budget and has placed over-emphasis upon the loan market, trainees and to a slight degree our consequent style of play. Success in the cup could be fundamental to available budget in January to strengthen the squad so we all need to get behind the team.

In hindsight, the sale of Harrison probably wasn't the cleverest of moves!

Totally agree. Ok, he isn’t scoring millions for MK Dons but he was technically an excellent footballer. Although Loft seems so immobile at the moment he surely can’t be fully fit? I’ve seen players in walking football with greater agility.

He was sold because his wage was above the new wage limit Carol imposed for strikers. Not because he wanted to go.

What evidence have you got of this so called "new wage limit Carol imposed for strikers"?  Where's that come from?

The same evidence as anyone who has been told things by people who are close to the top. Zero. You don't have to believe me. You just have to ask  yourself why else we are signing Loft and getting rid of Ellis if you need any evidence you can see with your own eyes over the last few windows. It is easy to blame DF but his hands are tied.  As with the other  one about Carol turning down an offer for the whole lock stock and barrel from Autonet that included £3m profit overall for Carol. Why won't she sell if she isn't prepared to spend the money needed to be competitive?

Interesting. Do you know the Ts&Cs of any other players’ contracts? If under an existing contract how does Carol’s new wage limit make any difference to him or any other player on higher wages than the new limit?  Would have thought if we said we weren’t going to pay a player what was in their contract wouldn’t the club be in breach of contract and have to pay compensation anyway which would possibly equate to what would be paid if players stayed anyway?

More a case of player was already on X amount so we sold him. He was our highest paid player and we replaced him with Loft.

***WARNING CONSPIRACY INBOUND***

Can anyone remember the timing between us re-signing Wilson and Harrison wanting to leave?

I remember someone posting a rumour last season that they had a fall out and then when Harrison said he wanted to leave I'm sure it was just after we took Wilson back so thought there could have been something in that
