January Transfers and Rumours

Do you know what, I'm going to give Vale a few hours on this still

The reason I'm not giving up hope yet is because Andy Giddings (BBC Radio Sheffield) posted this about Barnsley last night and like us, Barnsley have not posted anything regarding it;

"Barnsley still hoping a deal for a midfielder was done before the deadline. Conformation one way or another now expected in the morning"

Even though that is in regards to another club, that gives me hope for Vale for just a little bit longer

I think they brought in some complicated arrangement where you send something in by 1100 and then have an hour to submit the remaining documentation. I don't fully understand how it works but it was in response to the Bristol Rovers and Wrexham problems in the summer. I think it was more straightforward just to keep a simple deadline.  It also means you can't ask questions when completing documents as I assume the offices are unmanned after 11. Whether the rumour about Smith or any other player is true is a different question.

Terrible night, stayed up until 1am hoping something would come out but nothing.

Pretty much leaves us hoping James Wilson can play 2 games a week for the next few months or we are in deep deep trouble. Think we will struggle to stay up now, the fact we've not even got a young loanee striker let alone a decent experienced one is absolutely nuts, didnt Flickers say at the fans forum one would come through the door?

Understand fully not paying over the odds in January, but as a few have said, surely even a young championship / premier striker would provide cover. Particularly playing two games a week we need bodies.

There again, if not are better than Dipeta it is an opportunity for him to step up to the plate.

Flitcroft has had 4 transfer windows, since we have been promoted, to bring in strikers. He has failed. If we are being priced out of the forward market, why is it that other comparable league 1 clubs  (Burton, Shrewsbury, Lincoln, Cambridge, Carlisle) can sign them?

We have had obvious issues for the last 2 seasons, yet in the summer the solution taken by the club was to release and then re-sign Wilson and to sell Ellis, who in my opinion wasn’t up to much anyway but he would have still have been a better option than Loft or Uche who are desperation signings.

We either have a director of football who is incompetent or we simply cannot compete financially at this level and inevitably whether it be this season or the next we will be back in League 2. The dream of the Championship has never looked so far away.

With no local press coverage it was a strange end to a window. Before The Sentinel or Radio Stoke would tell you no further signings are expected and you'd know there was no point checking the Internet.  There must be a way the club can pick up the slack on that. Even the run of PR messages last January was better than the absolute silence post the McDermott departure. It's not really Flitcroft or Crosby's job but the marketing and communication department just aren't good at getting information out at times, which is a little sad as there was a time when there were good.

I'm going to hang around for that staggeringly popular press release at 10am the morning after. Then 11am.  Then Mid-day. After that, I shall assume we carry on with what we've got and lose no more emotional energy on the matter.

But I tell you one thing I will not be doing - slagging off our staff. Some of the people commenting on this thread about Carol, DF and AC need therapy.  The way they verbally abuse other people because they don't get what they want is pathetic.  Get over it.  Move on. Life's too short. (And so am I - I wanted to be six feet tall, and it's Carol's fault that I'm not, obviously.....got to find someone to blame).  UTV.

How tall are you?

You bet on your own team to be relegated...??  Really...??

If you have money you can afford to loose, then most of us would probably do this at the moment - even being a Vale Fan.

It is a bet that may well pay out and then you could spend the money down the shop - so the winnings goes back into the Vale coffers.  However, you would hope the bet wouldn't have to pay out and you wasted the money.
