January Transfers and Rumours

Interesting how this has gone as in the 60's and 70's there were many strikers that moved between clubs who were "nailed on" to score goals for each club. I'm thinking of those who played for the Vale, the likes of Roy Chapman, Tony Richards, Bert Llewelyn, Ernie Moss, Ken Beamo etc.
There's probably many more who were one club/one season wonders.
Unfortunately for every Richards or Chapman etc there was an Ian Lawson, Mel Charles or Terry Owen etc

Just noticed that Tommy McDermott has gone back out on loan to Curzon Ashton.

He wasn't getting games at Rochdale. He needs to play and progress. To me he looks lightweight. He needs to overcome that to play at the level Port Vale is at. Being a bit unfair there, I guess it's just normal development.

Remember Mel Charles debut. A Friday night game at Crewe and driving along the longest convoy of Vale fans I have ever seen (A500 not built in those days).

He was <ovf censored>, we lost, and we realised he wasn't his brother, the legendary John Charles!

I dont think he has advanced as quickly as Vale wanted him to unlike Plant and Walters(now)

Completely overtaken by Plant . Needs to start showing something soon as footy is brutal.

I think it’s right maybe to drop Tommy down a level on loan. Who knows why he didn’t get on the pitch at Rochdale? Maybe he’s just not as good as we hoped or simply their manager just didn’t like him for something else. Either way he really needs to be owning that level while he’s there and then maybe with a view to stepping back up to NL or L2 down the line. Only young and plenty of time to develop but it’s already difficult enough for him given the strength we have in midfield.

I wonder why that is

Usually because he has not made enough international appearances or won’t be paid enough to be appealing enough to the tax man to give a Visa to. The reason why all these international Prem stars get them is because they are usually experienced internationals on huge wages.
