A repeat of the scoreline when we played them at Hillsborough over the festive period 19 years ago will do me just fine.

Just purchased my ticket.

Remember going to that one. Bridge Wilkinson was brilliant that day from memory. However I never remember our away following back then being that big. Incredible we can take 2k odd and nobody thinks it is a big deal. In 2003/04 we barely seemed to take a 1k. Everyone even then was pretty fed up and miserable at being in league 1 after a couple of years out of the Championship and fans didn’t really like league 1 football, feeling it was a bit beneath us.

Funnily enough watched this yesterday and then went down a 03/04 wormhole.
We were bloody good going forward but (in hindsight) non-league at full backs and in goal (Jonny Brain played far too much that season). One of the more entertaining seasons on record since the turn of the century, though.
Yeah, Horton went a bit gung ho at times. In some games we basically had 4 strikers on the pitch with McPhee, Brooker, Paynter and Littlejohn all starting in the same side.

It's not a viable trip for me. Trans Pennine Express cancel trains on a whim and there is the impact of strike days on the service as well. Not driving means staying over - much as I like Sheffield I've had enough of travelling recently and needing to stay over even at home games.

Couldn't you get to Sheffield via EMR from Liverpool Lime Street?

That's a valid point as they are the main way to get to Sheffield rather than Trans Pennine Express which go to Leeds. But I'm still against going I'm afraid.

Not looking forward to this.  Expect to see little of the game with loads of latecomers standing up in the seats and aisles in front of me.

Would you rather a cracking view at a game with significantly less interest?

This is a mouthwatering fixture for the Vale.  Kind of fixture you want to get promoted for.

Unfortunately,  it's a sodding Thursday night, be it Christmas or not.

I for one will probably be one of those getting there just in the nick of time as I've got to finish work, jump in the car and shoot straight there.

As have quite a few I'll guess.

No, all they have to do is show a little consideration.

I'm sure everyone will behave like oh, I don't know, football fans.

I'll be sat down for much of it I'd have thought.  I tend to be.

But the thought of others not necessarily doing the same for whatever reason, such as getting a bit excited, doesn't really make me feel less up for it.

When we score do you get off your bum or sit there lightly applauding?

I don't think for one minute Jean is not there singing, shouting, getting off her seat when we score like the rest of us.  What games like Sheffield, Derby and others does is bring out the some of our idiots who show no consideration to some of our older or younger supporters.  I personally would sooner stand at a game if I could, will always choose a terrace over a seat and if there earlier enough would make my way to the back of the stand so not obstructng those who are not able to stand throughout.  It is the constant standing in front of people who might have difficulties viewing the game that gets to me.  Are we saying that for big followings the young children and older people should not go.
