The Run In

I hate doing this, as it usually means that we are in a relegation battle, but here it is the remaining fixtures for us and our relegation rivals.

For now I've limited it to us and the teams below us.  Walsall & Colchester are catchable, but with points at such a premium, I suspect that they will be safe. That said Colchester didn't register a shot on target in today's draw with Grimsby.

Personally I think that Grimsby are already as good as down, so it is really 1 from 3 at that point.

We are struggling but need to pick up points fast, and I know it is hard to see where they are coming from.

Anyway, enjoy, if you can, and try not to drive yourself crazy figuring out who will beat who in the run in.

I added Colchester following comments from Iron Curtain

I can see vale beating Grimsby and drawing with Crawley, Barrow and Morecambe.

I hate being doom and gloom but I honestly think it's a massive task getting this season back on some sort of track right now. In my twenty years or so of supporting the vale this is bad as it's gets. Maybe the Glover season but even then I'm sure we finished 18th that season.

Maybe that much needed win will spark something but I just can't see it.

Hopefully we're lucky and Southend drop down with Grimsby and we'll survive by the skin of our teeth.

I agree that it would take a monumental turnaround from Grimsby to catch us now.

The other place however, is most definitely up for grabs. Barrow seem to have hit some form & I can see them pulling themselves clear especially with some of their remaining fixtures. Worth remembering they beat us at our place as well on Boxing Day.

I'm personally looking at a couple of sides above us in Colchester & Walsall. I believe they are both right in the mix as well. So one of 4 for me, from ourselves, Southend, Colchester & Walsall.

Newport seem to have rediscovered a bit of form just as they come up against us. They were in the middle of an atrocious run when the original game was cancelled. Another dash of rotten luck to add to this truly rotten season.

Colchester next Saturday is absolutely huge. You feel something has to give & whoever wins that game takes a big advantage into the last 9 games.

No goals in 4 straight home games is some going even by Vale standards. We are in real real danger.

Colchester are the ones to watch... especially if they don’t beat us next week. Toughest run in of the lot and dropping like a stone!

I'd love to know the club record for not scoring in successive home games

We're almost into Liverpool territory here

According to Wikipedia it's five games set in 1998. Let's hope we don't equal it on Tuesday!

Southend will go down.

Discuss, analyse, predict, worry, agonise, blame, scream, cry, hope, question and criticise to your heart’s content - but when the dust settles, the league is finished and the table is set in stone, Southend are gone.

However we get there, we will get there.

Look back on this post on the last day to show I was right.

I originally said Barrow, but it’s clear now.

Maybe,

I will add them if we get any sort of result but don't want to jinx it for now.  If we beat them then we will effectively switch places and I will feel much more confident, especially as they didn't manage a shot on target against Grimsby today.

We also have a better GD.

I admire your calm and will meditate on this for the rest of the day.

It's a shame that we wont be allowed to have anyone in the ground before the end of the season, the last home game against Grimsby the crowd would have been the 12th man and also the last game at Mansfield we would take thousands.

Challenging run in for Colchester but they are further clear than us and have a game in hand. I’m not sure the run in matters. It’s down to who wants it the most. Imo it’s between us and Southend to go down with Grimsby. Barrow have 3 games in hand are winning games and have all the bottom sides at home.

You've got them back to front mate .

We are away to Grimsby then at home to Mansfield.

I'd rather take 350 and be safe than 3500 hoping to stay up !
