Match Thread: Southend United v Port Vale

They were truly a terrible side. Credit to us for making sure we don’t slip up and we put in a professional performance that could have seen us score more.

Great win Vale. Good game management at the end that gave them no chance of coming back. Enjoy the win fellow Valiants. UTV

Job done.

Can't fault any players today all put a shift in.

Worrall - Pope - Amoo were fantastic.

Clark has been immense since he's came back.

What a difference with Amoo back in the side.

Feed the pope and he will score!

Professional performance. Well done Vale

The one disappointment is I felt we could have gone for the jugular in the last 20 minutes. I think we could have got 2 or 3 more. Goal difference may prove important in a close league. They are by some way the weakest side we've played. Some nice ball players but ultimately they look like a bunch of young boys playing against men.

So our leading scorer has scored twice and narrowly missed a hat-trick, we are bossing the game, and about to go 5th in the league with 3 wins on the bounce after a tricky away game at the bottom team, and we still find something to snipe about?  Come on guys, have a beer, kick back, relax, and remember we are all Vale.  We all have our own favourites, but as long as we are winning, let's just kiss and make up eh?  UTV.

And, of course, the Askey doubters who were so concerned with us "plummeting" down the League, will be silent for another couple of days, or so! Theo has had the same kind of stick that Pope occasionally gets, as has Worrall and even Conlon. Let's not go over the top on criticisms, people...because when things turn around, your over-critical posts just make you look stupid!!!

They just looked like a team going through the motions and based on that they look doomed.

Get in there. Well done Vale. On the up

Tricky game but in the end we ran out comfortable winners. Best of all, The Pontiff is Back and unlucky not to have scored a hat trick. Great centre forward display and for me he was deservedly MOM.

Full week's rest now and then on to the FA Cup with the chance to make Carol's finance director a bit more happy.

Well done, JA and the lads.

Great result... and we closed the game out nicely.

UTV!!

Solid perfomance in what was a potential banana skin game and we played some lovely football at times.  Credit to Crookes for stepping in and delivering a great perfomance.  I thought Joyce had a great game today also, really used the ball well.  People can say what they like about Pope but he knows where the net is.

Great win. Managed to eventually watch it. (IFollow poor again)
The only thing I could look forward to on my 50th birthday due to lockdown, not seeing family. But now having a nip in my new Port Vale whisky glass after a comprehensive showing by the boys. Energy, press, and willingness to run won the day for me..you can only beat what's in front of you.

A throughly professional performance against a very poor Southend side. We stayed patient, we didn’t let them have any clear-cut chances and played our game throughout. It really should have been 4 or 5.

Crookes was excellent, it was really good to see him playing well. The midfield controlled the game well. The front three never stopped. Pope once again showed us his class.

3 wins in a week, I’m over the moon!

10 games gone. Average of 1.9 points per game. Keep that up and that's nearly 88 points, more than enough for automatic promotion!
