Transfer Rumours Pre-Season

Featured Replies

He was a good right winger and our away shirt would suit him down to the ground.🤐

Probably good at penalties too.

Anybody seen this McLean play? Van der laan gave him a right good write up in the facebook port vale live article I saw.

It will be interesting to see how this pans out. McKirdy the player perfectly fits the bill for what we are looking for, can play left or right, chips in with goals and has the potential to excite the fans. McKirdy the person has a lot of negative reviews. But, maybe living locally and having 6 months to reflect on how he is perceived, has changed him for the better. I’ll trust JA’s judgment on this one.

Thus far Askey has proven to be a sound judge of whether a player fits the mould of what he is looking for in terms of attitude and application. I trust him to make the call on McKirdy who, on stats alone, would look to be an upgrade on Browne.

Not going to happen. I know Harry and he said to me we would be one of the only clubs he wouldn't sign for.

I once said here that Coutinho would never hand in a transfer request while he was at Liverpool. Low and behold, the very next day he did exactly that!

The morale of the story being that people talk a load of <ovf censored> sometimes.

Really the negative reviews have all come at Carlisle. He had a couple of decent length loans and Villa kept him on for a long time. How much was down to being in the wrong club for him and him being wrong is not that easy to separate out. I suspect he came across to the other players as a big time Charlie. He fell out with some of the squad over a prank phone call pretending to be from a Championship, which really seems the sort of thing that happens in many clubs without repercussions. Vale fans have an issue over a pretty innocuous push, but its something Montano does quite a lot. Will be interesting to see what Askey makes of him.

Interesting that Salford want Mclean back for an extended trial. If he's as quick as Van der Laan claims its a pretty useful characteristics in league 2. Newcastle are becoming a good club for young players to progress at. Shame we haven't got one more friendly.

I'd back signing someone like McLean if we could get him loaned out to National League for 6 months(at least). Big jump from Newcastle Town's level to League Two, yes the talent may be there but some experience a bit higher up would be useful to see if he can cut it against better players/defenders.

I don;t understand the negativity behind McKurdy. Yes he wasn't happy in Carlisle. We all see he plays with a swagger, is "clever" winning free kicks which is annoying to watch at times however he is that skilled creative type we currently lack in our squad. A player who can do something out of nothing to unlock a defence in a tight game.

The type of player every promotion chasing squad need.

Agree. No vale fan had a problem with grant until he left, and he was the king at winning soft free kicks

For me, this type of signing is a no brainer. What do we have to lose. If he can finish and has the type of pace VDL is alluding to, a coach like askey could be just what the lad needs to make it. He'd likely command a very low wage (relatively). If he makes the step up, great for all concerned. If he doesn't, then we've wasted a very small percentage of our budget.

I'm a big advocate of giving youngsters a chance at this level. If they can't make an impression in L2, then they're in all likelihood never going to make it. Experience can only give you so much. As we've seen with loads of players over the years, it's the basic talent that's important for a young player. You can have 10 years of experience and still be a mediocre L2 player.

In my opinion, McKirdy should be given a chance. Everyone keeps alluding to an attitude problem he seems to have, but does anyone actually know what that means? The lad was brought up in Stoke and maybe a move back home could be the best thing for him. What’s the harm in a one year deal? It could potentially be last chance saloon for the lad. I remember watching him for Carlisle this season, and I couldn’t help but think, I’d love that lad in our side. He’s a proper sh*thouse and that’s something we don’t have. He’s without a doubt a talented footballer. He would certainly add goals to our side and that’s something which is missing now we don’t have Taylor. I’m all for this signing!
