Transfer Rumours Pre-Season

Featured Replies

It all depends what happens though, we’ve had Browne leave, supposedly Montys got a knock. What if one of the other wingers got injured? That may force our hand.

I am not sure why everybody has such a downer on McKirdy.  He annoyed me when he played against us last season with his antics and previously at Crewe but he looked a good player.  I would take his goals next season as our other midfielders don't look like getting 9 or 10 plus goals a season.  I think he would give us something different than what we already have.  Irrespective of whether he is a poor mans Grealish or not I trust our management team to be able to ascertain this and then handle him.  Let's see if he signs first and then judge him.

Agreed.

People are quick to jump on this 'he's a bad apple' bandwagon, yet are completely OK when Pope is being a cretin for us against other teams, I thought we all loved that? I was sat in the bycars when he was being arrogant against us, I thought 'jesus, we could do with someone nasty like this against Stevenage '. Having some edge and arrogance as a footballer is not a bad thing, hopefully it's a sign that they are'nt paper enough to just give up. They aren't all going to be professionalism personified like a Leon Legge, here's a list of 'Bad Eggs' just off the top of my head.

Steve Brooker
Dan Jones
Lee Hughes
Tom Pope
Ryan Burge (granted an actual womble, but on the pitch, for one season he was probably at the very peak of his career)
Clayton McDonald
Ashley Vincent
Darren Purse

Didn't even think at length for that list, there's 100's more probably.

McKirdy might get us goals, he plays in the positions we are after, Askey is on the case - yet people still don't want him near the club because we have some overly sensitive fans who think he could upset the dressing room, despite knowing nothing about the dressing room.

Would massively welcome a 1 year deal for this player, take the risk for the playoffs, an upgrade on Browne, has some spirit and energy, young. No more of a risk that multi-million pound super star Mitch Clark.

There’s a big difference to how this clown comes across on the pitch and the way he plays the game when compared to some of the players you list. He embodies a lot the things that are wrong with the modern player for me. On top of that you have the manager of carlisle getting rid after what appears on paper to look like a successful season for him. That says it all too.

He's a self opinionated, stubborn individual.

There is no doubt that he's a talented footballer but unless he grows up and recognises the importance of discipline and of being part of a team then he'll not fulfil his ambitions. There is no "I" in team. Read the Carlisle manger's comments and read between the lines.

Askey saying that McKirdy is “just training with us” is a perfect political foil - if that is exactly what is happening, then fine. If he is having a look at him up close, the player doesn’t lose face if he’s not taken on and we have made an informed choice with no risk if we don’t take him. If we do take him on, we have an idea of what he’s like up close, in addition to tales of his reputation. No doubt there are others who are on the back-burner - there always are but it’s a case of balancing priorities of risk against value.

Happy to give Mckirdy a chance ,hated him when he played against us but might be one of those to wind the opposition up which might benefit us getting out of this god awful league.

Or he could be another Gary Roberts,  Ryan Burge and Gary Mulligan - an absolute weapon

Anyone know who the other player is?

I have heard very little of this McKirdy chaps antics but I do remember googling him when He plaed against us last season because he was their best player by far, that is until things started going against him and he started playing with his socks rolled down (a pet hate of mine)

At the moment I am firmly of the opinion that as a club we no longer have to take a chance on wrong uns like we have done so many times in the past, so I will let our glorious leaders decide if he is indeed a bad egg, and i will trust their judgement.

We have heard JA say  a few times that the massive surplus of players is all of a sudden bringing players within our reach, maybe this is one of them?

The article says that McKirdy is one of two forwards training with the Vale. Anyone know who the other is?

Yeah he started off the game well, but it didn't take long for Gibbo to have him in his pocket and that's when his attitude totally changed with the diving and histrionics. It must have wound his own players up as well as fans.

The other one training with us has never played league football. (edit just seen his name in the posts above)

I think if he’s good enough then Askey and Kevan will give him the chance. I’ve spoken to a few and they say he’s not ready at all for league football. We also have a lad on trial next week from Newcastle town so we do scout locally and give the lads trials quite a lot. It’s just that most are not good enough once they have a weeks training against the Pros.

This is the lad who I said was coming in few weeks back. He’s had a good trial at a league one club and done well and there’s us and another couple of league clubs interested. He’s very quick and beats players for fun but the only downside is the fact he’s lightweight. So I’m not sure he will make the step up. It’s worth having a look though and who knows what Askey and Dave will think. Good luck.

Relatively easy to bulk someone up if you're a professional football club with physios, a nutritionist, a gym and badged coaching staff. If he's a technically gifted player then definitely worth looking at it as he'll be cheap to take on. Better good enough and lightweight instead of not good enough but strong.

Is he young enough that he doesn't count towards the player quota and salary cap?
