Match Thread - Oldham Athletic v Port Vale

I think I'd go for a 3-5-2 due to our distinct lack of wingers. So here goes.

Brown

Rawlinson Legge Vassell

Gibbo Clarke

Hannant Kay Conlon

Whitfield

Pope

Use Kanu as an impact sub.

I like the look of that side. However I don’t trust the manager to play players who can actually play wing back. He put Hannant there earlier in the season didn’t he. Seeing as they went with wing backs the other night I think your side will be close to what he goes with at Oldham, but with at least one oddball selection.

Yeah I think one of Gibbo/Vassell will miss out for Smith unfortunately, as I'd like both of them to be given a run of games. Think Smith's been given more than a fair crack of the whip, time for others to have a chance. But like yourself you know they'll be some odd personnel or formation going on somewhere in Aspins selection.

We all know how it's going to go...

Eight in defence - Brown, Clark, Smith, Rawlinson, Legge, Vassell, Pugh, Conlon...anyone caught going beyond the half way line will be hauled off and dropped for the next game

Hannant and Whitfield will run about like headless chickens and Pope will be driven mad by long balls pumped aimlessly at him all afternoon, with long throws also aimed at him and every goal kick aimed at him too

Oldham will score early and their centre backs will fall asleep as it will be so easy and predictable for them. Vale will create a couple of half chances and Oldham will score early second half. Kanu will be thrown on, as will Joyce or Kay and the third sub won't be used as Aspin daren't do that any more after MK Dons.

Aspin will stand arms folded all game, apart from when he sips water from his bottle. Vale fans will fall out amongst themselves.

I hope I'm wrong...but I don't think I will be

i am hoping to not have tantrums this week. They are occasioned by casually conceding in the first 5 minutes, not defending set pieces at all, playing 8 players in unfamiliar positions, playing long balls to the target man who is injured and sitting in the stand ..... I guess at least the keeper doesn't dribble round our box and give a goal away. It is about professionalism isn't it. Just try as best we can and cut out the daft tactics and errors. An error free afternoon and we can 1-0 them.

And the only decent talking point will be a late iffy penalty decision turned down and we will cling to that being the reason why we haven't got a point.

Another bizarre line-up

The latest edition of "guess the system"

Possibly 3-5-2 with Smith, Rawlinson and Legge at CB with Clarke and Vassell as wing backs?

Or is Rawlinson at RB, Vassell LB and Clarke in midfield again?

Strange, strange, strange.

Another away day loss incoming.
