How Aspo has turned a dis-interested , half hearted winger into a quality left back is pure genius.

Well done Aspo for clearly seeing something in training and a big thumbs up to Montano for proving 95% of us wrong by digging in and putting in some excellent performances.

Has to start as our number one left back surely and work on the defensive side in pre-season and we have one heck of a player.

Aspin got a bit lucky with Monty at left back because if he really knew how good he would be there, he'd have been at full back weeks before he actually did. Monty's first game at left back was at Swindon where Kay was suspended and Aspin switched Pugh from full back to centre mid. We'd just come off the 5-1 hammering at Cheltenham and a couple of weeks before Pugh had been absolutely murdered at Accrington so Monty was a gamble at left back which has payed off spectacularly

Great first signing a positive player who puts us on the front foot from left back and plays the role like he as played there all his career .

More like him please as i want see Vale players taking the fight to the opposition .

Him and Hannant play like they want score goals .

We need if we are ever going be successful have players who can turn the worst performance into a very encouraging draw or win even if undeserved with a touch of class to bring us back into games .

Montano Hannant have that

I don't think you're giving Aspin the credit he deserves there. Far from it.

Agreed. Managers like Broewn would have addressed the situation described by playing someone like Lainton there, on the basis that as a GK he would be more defensively minded!

I'd heard mutterings that Cristian wasn't happy so this news just goes to show you can't trust what you hear. Brilliant news. Just a commanding centre half now to partner Smithy and that back 4 is set.

A prime example as to why football decisions are made by football people and not a fans forum on here. Great news - go on Monty!

I'm quite sure aspin wouldn't have given him a new deal based on his first half of the season performance. If you read on here he got criticised correctly as he wasn't in the slightest bit interested. If you also read on here basically everyone has praised him since the appointment of aspin and his move to left back.

Critised correctly is a matter of opinion. He wasn't great, but disagree that he was not interested. He was a standard Div 4 winger in a poor team - occasional glimpses of some quality, but no consistency. He is still 2nd top scorer.

You are actually arguing my point - put to a vote on here he would have been hung, whereas Aspo has seen more, as he had with Kay, strengths to their games and how they can contribute to the team rather than just 'get shut of him'

Hope you aren’t building up a case to keep Lainton.

Great Montano signing a longer contract just hope there is an appearance clause or bonus when he does play as he has missed a lot of games through injury.

Does this mean we can thank Baldrick Brown for signing him.At least he got one right.
