Just found this about Brown's contract for this season. This was from Norman following the departure of Bruno and Brown's appointment as caretaker manager.

"Michael has always been in my plans to be involved," he told BBC Radio Stoke.

"I'd like him to have been involved a lot more under Bruno but he was excluded from a lot of it as Bruno kept it close to himself.

"He knows a lot of people, he's very well connected and I genuinely believe that, at some point, he will be manager of Port Vale.

"Results will dictate the timescale. I'm hoping he gets an easy ride over the next few weeks.

"Even if he doesn't get the job, he will remain as assistant manager as he is contracted until at least the summer of 2018."

One thing about Smurfthwaite is patently clear. He couldn't lie straight in bed ! By all means listen to what he has to say, but then dismiss it instantly. If he told me today was Sunday, I'd still check the calendar first. To be a good liar you have to have a good memory, but unfortunately for him he has neither. Never in 55 years of watching the Vale have I felt more fearful for the Clubs future. And it's all down to ONE person.

So Smurf didn't want to appoint Brown as manager. But he wanted him to be involved more under Bruno.Told him that he could manage the club one day as he liked the way Brown worked and bought fresh air I to the club

If you agreed to sell me your car for £100 and we shook on it then I came back a week later and said actually I will give you £22, would you sell your car to me?

Im not selling a car

But my post was in relation to - we remain as keen as ever to buy the club should the opportunity arise in the future.

But the club in now in a different position so - In the mean time the actuall value of the club drops so it's worth less.Which then makes their offer more attractive.

I would if it had since conked out, was almost irreparable and was now only worth scrap value.

Why do you believe what Norman says about Synectics financial situation? They have entered talks twice with Norman and on each occasion he has pulled the plug, not Syectics. There are only so many times you can bang your head against a brick wall. Carol Shanahan did say, however, after their second bid was rejected in May, "We are incredibly disappointed that we were unable to reach an agreement at this time. However, we remain as keen as ever to buy the club should the opportunity arise in the future." That suggests they would be happy to re-enter talks with Norman should they receive the slightest encouragement.

I'm not saying I believe what Smurf is saying fully about Synetics I'm saying I think the truth lies very much in the middle. There were so many questions left unanswered properly by Synetics that something doesnt sit right. They have never actually (as far as I'm aware) explained where the funding was coming from. Surely that would cut Smurf off at the knee if they explained this is where the finance is and we have shown prove to the sentinel or radio stoke etc?

For people who are "as keen as ever" they soon gave up rather quickly and haven't been heard from since May

Amen. The fact Smurthwaite rated Brown should have been enough to run a mile. Has Smurthwaite ever got a decision right? His judgement of managers is worth as much as Browns on players!

The funding was coming from them with their own money. They had offered more for the club when they first entered negotiations with Norman in 2016 and the club was doing OK in League One. Their offer at the end of last season reflected the fact that the club had been relegated so was not as attractive a proposition. Norman has never actually explained his loans to the club but you seem to take them as gospel. Are you saying that Synectics should show Radio Stoke/Sentinel their bank accounts but you do not think Norman should do the same??

Synectics have clearly not given up but there is just so much time you can give to a project before you realise you are banging your head against a brick wall. Negotiating with Norman must be like knitting fog. I very much suspect that if he gave the slightest hint he would be prepared to re-open negotiations, they would be happy to get involved but when he has made it clear that he doesn't actually want to sell at a sensible price, why should they waste their time? Norman has said he has had five lots of £50,000 in payment for exclusivity from prospective buyers yet none of them have proceeded. Why do you think that is??

They decided it wasn't worth the money being asked. They couldn't get enough information.

But £250k is a nice little earner.

Speculation about Norman's thinking and the accuracy of his accounts of events is purely of entertainment value. I can't see his decision making being influenced by anyone's opinions, he seems to live in a world of his own and does his own thing regardless. He'd make an interesting study for psychiatrists.
