He came with a lot of promise but never fulfilled it, for me. Like JJ he didn't progress last season and was never able to further his development here. He's decent with the ball at his feet and we all know he has a good long range shot but he drifts in and out of games and is very lightweight and easily brushed aside. Just doesn't get involved enough.

 

He needs to do the dirty side of the game if he is to stay in league football.

Sage has summed this up really well. I think Sam's farewell message shows a lot of class and he has left in a professional way having conducted himself with utmost integrity. I hope he can find a club at a level where he will thrive, sadly that is not likely to be in the football league.

Rob Page and Paul Bodin rated Sam Kelly highly, Bruno however sidelined him. Sam Kelly is a creative player, he flit's in and out of games and is not the type of player who "Covers every blade of grass" like most players of his type. He's a confidence player capable of brilliant things but there's been too few of them, his season never really got going. Hope Vale havn't made a mistake.

His concentration in the defensive side of his role was also a big let down for him and too often left our left back overloaded. I'm not sure if it was his natural demeanour but he has a really lazy style of play and didn't look as if he wanted to get in to games, we can't afford too many players like that and I sense Brown wants more all action players.
