it could be that port vale is now toxic after all the stupidity ,agents will advise their clients to avoid like the plague and we could be left with the scraps AGAIN,.

It could be that we've been relegated and our better players want to stay at league one level.

Agents will not be telling their clients to avoid us. They'll be telling them to take the offer that suits them most. Simple as that.

I imagine players would have to accept quite big reductions in their pay when a club is relegated so I'm not surprised he wants to stay in League One and maintain his income.

Shrewsbury or Bristol Rovers?

He had a poor season and didn't create or score enough goals but he always gave 100% effort and he'd certainly get a warm reception form me if he came back to Vale Park. A really good team player I imagine.

Good luck to him.

My worry, that I've spoken about before, is that we are desperately in need of the type of players who are impossibly hard to get hold of and command high wages, namely goalscorers and creative midfield players who can also chip in with 8-10 goals.

At a bare minimum we need a Bridgy/Dodds type midfielder, a McPhee/Naylor goalpoacher and a winger like Marshall.

But they are like hen's teeth. Every club wants them. Far easier to find full backs and defenders than players like that.

I suppose if Streete and Foley go it at least frees up some wages and there are lads out there who will still view Port Vale as a step up. Let's hope so. But it's a very tough ask as it's not just 1 key, classy player we need but 3-4.

If only we'd thought along these lines a year ago and added to the squad we had then. With Smith/Streete replacing Duffy/McGivern (ok, no guarantee Page would have done that) and 3-4 arrivals we'd have had a proper squad, even with Dodds/O'C leaving. No way we'd have gone down, I'd argue.

Vale never seem to have goal-scoring central midfielders. Dodds rarely played in that position so the last one, to my mind, was Micky Cummins more than 10 years ago.
