I genuinely love John Rudge. My last living hero, a great human being and a manager whose team I feel privileged to have supported.

Of all my memories of Port Vale over the years, Liverpool in 64,Arsenal,Spurs Everton Bristol Rovers one of my overriding memories was Rudgey bringing his team on to the pitch at half time against Burton,the reception he received made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and I'm not ashamed I had a tear on.

Rudgie was a legend but i don't think he wants the responsibility of director of football now.

Nice to see JR wishing us well for tomorrow. Whatever happens on Sunday could we dare to dream smurfs big announcement on Monday is that he has persuaded JR to be our director of football.

Obviously it would better news if Smurfs announcement is that he has sold up completely.

Would John be persuaded even on a part time or advisory roll ???

It would be brilliant if we had new owner(s), ideally Synetics, who then pursuaded Sir John Rudgeto be Director of Football with a remit to oversee the support of the first team manager, he could help develop the scouting network, transfer negotiations etc.

I cant see him being foolhardy, he would need to have very strong assurances to take that on, and even then why give up a comfortable retirement?

The joy of going into school the day after we beat them 3-1 will be with me forever.

 

That period in our club history spolit me and I can now only dream:sad:

I'm not a fan of bringing back legends, you only have to look at what happened to Dean Glover, he is remembered by a generation of Vale fans as the manager who got us relegated and sadly not the captain who lifted Vales first ever trophy at Wembley.....

It's a beautiful idea, but I highly doubt it. In fact, I had a quick word with John before the home game with Walsall this time last year. Tongue in cheek I suggested such a return and I got the impression the man wants to enjoy his retirement and family. And rightly so.

It spoilt me too I still struggle to see us less than a First Division (Championship) club.

 

Its been my dream for the last 17 years to get back there. It never entered my mind we would drop below League One level. Let alone twice in the last 17.
