Matchday Thread: Trophy, Doncaster R v Port Vale

For this trophy match I think we'll make some changes, I wouldn't play our important players like Jerome Thomas and Ryan Taylor.

Purkiss apparently has a shoulder injury I heard Blakeman say he has saw it first-hand.

Remie Streete I think is on 4 yellows so I wouldn't risk him in what is a nothing match.

I think Santos will start, as he did against Mansfield in the last Trophy fixture.

My starting 11 would be

Santos

Gibbons Mac-Intosch Smith Knops/Kiko

Mbamba Amoros Tavares Kelly

Cicilia Turner

I heard the same from Blakeman.

I'd go the other way and encourage Bruno to start his best 11 in an attempt to get some confidence, cohesion, pace and pattern of play into the team for the future in a competitive game. It's a risk worth taking IMO.

I think you have to be wary of the rules. I think you can only make six changes from the previous league starting eleven to avoid weakened sides (ironic as the PL/Championship sides by default are weakened as they are B sides but that's another story...)

I think your team has seven (if my maths is right) changes from Stevenage and I think Vale would be fined if that were the case.

We might as well go for this, in the hope that we can boost confidence as well as get some prize money. We simply don't have a reserve XI that is remotely good enough anyway.

Pick the best team we have and try and play on the front foot at a fast tempo. If we could partner Jones and ANOther up front it would look so much more threatening.

Wouldn't waste Jones, Forrester, Taylor, Thomas or bookings for Grant or Streete on this abomination of a competition. The sooner we are out and disassociated from it the better. Our priorities need to be the league and FA Cup.

Isn't it the previous starting 11 and subs that feature?

If it is the case that would be ok because of Cicilia.

Have to disagree with that REP. You don't think our season would benefit from a Wembley final and the few bigger games that precede it? Yes, a run in the FA Cup would be good but will likely have ended by 4th round at most.

League is obviously most important & I'd love to see us go for the Championship (which seems unlikely right now), but despite the crappy format we're stuck with, I'd be very happy with a mid-table finish & a win/2nd place in this cup.

Bookings don't carry over either if I recall, not 100% on that one though.

If it was last season's comp I'd completely agree Tomo but do we really want to win something that had been damaged so abysmally by the EFL and is the laughing stock competition of English football? I'm glad we beat Derby's B team but will gladly take losing the other two games so our name is no longer linked to such an awful idea.
