What is Smith worth?

The lad seems to have a good head on his shoulders and maturity beyond his years and id love to think he isn't one that grabs to first opitunity to go to a mediocre championship club and realises in center back terms he's a baby and while his reputation is continues to grow he has time to develop himself as much as he wants playing first team football with us the problem is agents as usual wanting money as soon as possible regardless of if that move is actually going to be a benefit to the players career, no doubt I'm my mind agents have actually ruined many players futures by securing themselves a payday as soon as a few quid flashes up in front of them, keep your head on Smithy lad.

Sorry that's a nonsense argument. All long-term contracts have an element of risk and no-one knew Andoh would get injured that's simply bad luck (particularly for the player).

Injuries are simply a matter of luck and not a reflection on ability and potential. Before he got injured Andoh was being linked with big money moves (NS himself confirmed there had been offers). It's no wonder people said he needed to be tied down to a contract under those circumstances.

I agree it's early days for Nathan Smith but if he continues in this vein I would hope that negotiations would start in December (before the window opens again in January). That would mean Smith would have played 20-odd games and we'd then have a better idea of his potential.

How is it nonsense, I'm not saying we knew andoh would be injured , the point is after 10 games you shouldn't start throwing silly money about .

It doesn't matter if its only 10 games, thats enough to make an impression and for other clubs to begin sniffing around. Because after a period of good games other clubs will be looking at him, no doubt about that. I have no idea what these lads are on but if the agent has anything about him he'll be trying to get the best deal for the player whilst he can. Look at the supposed Tottenham interest in Andoh last year. If it means the agent pushing other clubs to watch them in order for Vale to give him a new and improved contract then thats how it works. Equally we should be looking at getting the best deal possible for if he moves and that may mean a longer contract.

A bit too early in my opinion to judge Nathan.I've seen him play in five games now and there's no doubting his potential but I'd like to see him against the likes of Millwall,Sheff.Utd,Bolton etc before passing judgement.

John Stones played 24 games for Barnsley before Everton came calling.
