I don't think the first weekend new season taught us anything we didn't already know in the most part.

 

Chelsea need more than just Costa who was lucky to stay on the pitch.

Arsenal still need a new defender.

Man City are still a work in progress.

Leicester looked weak without Huth and Kante.

Liverpool look wobbly at the back but strong in attack.

Stoke badly need a centre back and striker.

Man United already look a typical Jose side.

Liverpool should be a bit better defensively when Larius and Lucas come back into the side, but while Moreno is at left-back the opposition will always be in with a chance to score and create.

 

Stoke have a good side on paper and are very strong in midfield, though we all know Shaqiri and especially Arnoutovic are inconsistent and can be as poor as they can brilliant on their day. But when you have Diouf as your striker as they did in the last game then there's a problem that needs addressing. They'd be a better side with a Jemaine Defoe up top.

Solid performance by United yesterday, who under Mourinho are already looking much better than in any point in Van Gaal's tenure. Although in fairness Sunderland and Southampton aren't the most difficult of opponents to start with - Especially as both are bedding in with new managers.

He's been totally shot of confidence since leaving Liverpool. There's a good, exciting player in there somewhere, but he just hasn't progressed in the last 18 months or so. Some poeple will say he only had an excellent season for Liverpool because Luis Saurez was in the team, but to say that's all there was to it is just ridiculous.

Congratulations to Burnley on a fine win at home to Liverpool - great to see the less-fancied teams carrying on the Leicester tradition.

I feel Stoke could be in trouble. I think they are weak at centre half and haven't got a proven PL goal scorer. They have tried to convert to a ball playing side, but the balance doesn't look right. Many Vale fans, especially younger ones, would like to see Stoke go down, but their being in the Premier League gives the city a world wide profile which is economically helpful. So I hope they sort this out.
