Retained list

A strange feeling of deja vu has descended on me, I seem to recall having an empty feeling when the retained list was announced last summer, totally uninspired. Will have to put off getting my season ticket until next weekend when I have got over the disappointment.

Let's see who accepts a new contract or decides the grass is greener elsewhere first. Then see who comes in. I'm reserving judgement on this until we see who turns up for pre season training.

We would still need cover at right back, we'd still need midfield cover. The list makes perfect sense if the wages offered are right whether people like it or not

IMO though that cover is only useful when those being used as squad players are enough. For me both Yates and Birchall weren't at this level last season never mind this one. Even if on even lower wages I still disagree with this decision.

Wonder what Birchall can offer the team - experience maybe, water boy or will he be taking wages and just sitting on the bench or the stand each week. Page knows what he wants to achieve and what his players are capable of.

After all the budget is being cut and the players may not even accept the reduced contracts being offered and leave. Just hope the players give Page an answer quickly, rather than drag it out.

Another season of over achieving may be or a Crewe season. Bookies will be looking at putting Vale as favourites to go down now.

I don't think this news will have people flocking.

The marketing department really need to pull their fingers out and do something to promote the ST sales.Just over two weeks to go before the price goes up.

The budget will only go so far.The squad as it is was far to big.It needed cutting down.9 have been released just that money alone will go a good way to get in 3 or 4 better players. Not all those offered contracts will sign which will make more money available.

well done you, top Vale fan aren't we?

The list last year led to a vast improvement

I would like to think I am as I am buying a season ticket for the 30th year in a row, despite my disappointment.

I think the improvement was more to do with the players brought in rather than those who were retained and rarely featured.

Melv the price increase is .87p per match over the course of the season, I certainly will not be rushing to renew mine.

Thats your choice. But there are a lot who that money saved will make a considerable difference to.Just over two weeks to go at the cheaper price. The marketing department need to pull their finger out and start promoting the season ticket sales.

Absolutely ridiculous. It's the same every season too. Does this club lack some balls or something? It seems like Yates, Birchall and Lloyd have a job for life.

Not one person can put up a decent argument to how those 3 have deserved a contract. Would have made more sense to keep McGivern and get rid of those 3.

Lloyd- What has he actually offered to the first team ever? Has he ever even started a game? He has been in and around the squad for around 3 years now and never looked like breaking in. Can't really say he's even that young now.

Birchall- Yes, he has been a good servant and a very useful player in the past, but his time had come last season. He's done nothing this season and we all know he will do nothing next season.

Yates- How does he keep getting new contracts? He has rarely featured all season, so how does that equate to being offered a new contract? Simply not good enough and we should of got rid last season.

I know we need back up players, but it seems like instead of finding new squad players who will be on a low wage, we are just happy with sticking with what we know.

We will never challenge at the top of this league with this attitude. Too much loyalty has been given to these 3 players. End of.

I have invested in 2 season tickets. So in Page and Smurf I trust. I feel both are a year more experienced.

Obviously if we leave the EU the club will close down and the pitch will be dug up and the stands melted down for scrap. With the Russian invasion I guess fans will have more to worry about. If we vote to stay in the EU we will have to wait and see who accepts contract offers and who can be attracted. State Aid restrictions will still apply so we cant have another bung from the Council.

Says on sentinel site that Page has agreed a season loan for Johnson so his wages will be covered by that, so can understand that now to some degree, Lloyd is very strange unless Page has a similar deal lined up, Do we really need Yates surely we have Smith who can act as back up and the young yts lad is a fullback as well?

We've just announced that we have a preseason friendly with Chester. Wouldn't surprise me to see him go there again.

Birchall played 13 times and scored 2 goals, not a bad goal to game ratio despite not all the appearances being starts.
