Last season I probably would have agreed with this thread. But this season? Come on - most improved player in the entire squad. Plays far more intelligently than he used too and doesn't seem to get caught bombing forward - because he's reading the game better probably.

Has anyone satisfactorily explained why a captain is so important in football? Most of the top teams have 4 or 5 commanding players throughout the spine of their side. Personally, I'd rather Dickinson got back to the form he showed in the first 2 months of the season when he was excellent, rather than worry about being captain.

 

Regarding most improved player, that goes to Duffy in my opinion.

Yes the red card on Saturday was unfortunate but as there appears to be no video evidence of the event we'll just have to lump it. Having aid that, Dicko's disciplinary record has improved beyond all recognition this season. He only had two yellows before Saturday and one of them was that ludicrous business in the Maidenhead game. His performances have also improved this season and to consider him the weak link in our team is, in my humble opinion, absolute top grade garbage.

I thought he was very good a couple of seasons ago, he fell back last year, and has generally done reasonably well this year. I noticed against Blackpool he wasn't as quick as the wide attacker, but he isn't slow. However, last season too many players got inside his area of the pitch because he committed to wide challenges and either didn't get there or wasn't covered. That has improved this year I feel. I think he is good at our level, but McGivern could give a show and hold down the spot for a while.

Mmmmm.... Maybe but I think his consistent commitment is difficult to argue against. His quality is a bit variable but not his committment, I think.

A thread devoted to the captain of our football team who kisses his captains badge every game, is proud to wear the shirt, puts in 100% every game, rallies the fans before the game, ALWAYS thanks them after the game and in my opinion has had a decent season so far.

Agree with all that , only negative comment is Dickos distribution. Expect better from someone who has played at a higher level and perhaps a part of his game he needs to focus on.

Totally agree. There is definitely some merit in Bald Eagle's suggestion that the loss of Andoh has resulted in a down turn in Dickinson's form as he was much improved for the initial weeks of the season.

100% pass completion ratio?

Laser guided pinpoint crossing that puts goals on a plate for us?

Clean sheets in every game?

Mazy dribbles past 8 players every time they get the ball?

 

Dicko is a decent full back for us, he will have storming games, he will have poor games. The expectations of some fans are just ridiculous.

As I always say, football is about opinions, and nobody should be slated/abused for giving THEIR opinion.

 

For what it's worth, my opinion is that Dickinson is the weak link in our team. His positional play is poor, his distribution is poor, his awareness of other players position is poor. He did appear to have a good start to the season, especially after his woeful year last season. I would say this was more due to the form and ability of Andoh, who did so much defensively to cover for Dickinson's frailties. Now no Andoh = poor Dickinson.

 

Passion and kissing the badge etc, means nothing. It's about ability, and his is very limited. I could play at left back, and kiss the badge and clap the fans, but I can't play football at the required level so would be no good. A look at McGivern at left back for 3 games would be good, and then re-evaluate it after that
