The Hand in Flowers is a better option, 5 mins walk from the ground. Good ales, but quite small - so get in early.

 

Also the Maidens Head in the High Street is a good option with a few ales on.

I live in London... Easy train but working nights on the Thursday. Would I regret using a day's holiday? I'm more likely to make the effort given Vale get half the gate fee.
