One of the Maidenhead directors has also offered one useful tips for those of us travelling;

'The Bell is a very big pub and the beer is reasonably priced with plenty of food on offer and adjacent to Bell Street where the away entrance will be and I guess coaches would drop you. Also next to a Travelodge if anyone has to stay the night. All bang opposite the station with trains taking approx 40 minutes to Paddington outside peak hours (20 in peak).

The ground is right in the middle of the town centre so loads of food drink/options within 10 minutes walk although parking is difficult. There are two small car parks opposite the main York Road entrance to the ground but read the small print with regard to fees as wardens have been known to do their rounds about 8ish on a matchday.

Two Wetherspoons pubs which are exactly as you would expect to find them, The Greyhound (or Skinny Dog as its known locally) is round the corner from the Bell en route to the main ground York Road entrance in Queen Street. The Bear is at the bottom of the High street. Much bigger and an actual genuine pub unlike the usual bank/post office conversion. If you go there you will walk past the town hall which you may recognise as the hospital from Carry On Doctor/Again Doctor or a university in Carry on Camping/Behind

Bar Sport in King Street by the cinema is a lot better than the name sounds although of course the TV sport is very much available live in the local area for once!

If you're looking for real ale you can reportedly use the Conservative Club next to the York Road entrance with a Camra card.

You can also get a decent pint of Brakspears in the Vine in Market Street.

Sadly it will be the one game of the season when away fans won't be able to sample the local Rebellion ales in our social club due to segregation.

Finally two landmarks other away fans always mention. Firstly the Honeypot in Queen Street between the Greyhound and the York Road entrance, is a lap dancing bar. Secondly the Anchor opposite the York Road entrance is a candidate for the roughest pub in Britain. I'm sure it may have some competitors in the Potteries but would certainly match up to the worst of them!'

Think we all need to wait first to ensure we get a ticket before we arrange what pubs to drink in! Allocation is going to be very low and even though it's a Thursday night and miles away surely Vale will sell out? Another ground to knock off our visited lists/ FA Cup/anticipation of lads putting matters right/ supporting the Team when they most need it......any more reasons required to get fans to this game?

Maidenhead have confirmed the following today;

1. Club officials meeting with BT, FA & police today. Last two 1st round ties we hosted we got about 2.5k without selling out.

2. 450 will be the away allocation with Vale telling Maidenhead they expect a following of 250-300.

3. The ground will be segregated. The entrance for Vale fans will be the Bell Street turnstile.

4. 7:45 is confirmed as the kick off time.

Vale don't expect us to sell out mate, anticipating a maximum of 66% of allocation to be sold apparently.

Fancy a beer before the game?
