So, is "Black Friday" just a poor mans Boxing Day?

Oh no we won't. Black Friday (or is it renamed white Friday by Ferguson police and their KKK mates?) is not being recognised by the vast majority or normal, sensible people who don't want to be part of the most sickening country on earth.

 

Why do we also get United Sewers news programmes onlate at night telling us the weather in Ohio and the petrol prices in Seattle ? Just vile.

Bea, I think you can load the facts and statistics to say whatever you want. In this case you choose to focus on the negative and ignore positives (using war vs musical inspiration is a very loaded argument) and that's your prerogative but I don't consider it a fair argument.

 

Having spent some time there, I think it's a wonderful country and I'd love to go back

"The USA is a country that has the very best of everything, and the very worst of everything"

 

That's probably very true; admire the best and comdemn the worst..don't comdemn all cos of the worst

I work with Americans based here in the UK, in New York and in Houston..a very diverse bunch but for me all great people. We have out disagreements but that's fine. Been there for an extended trip driving Route 66 and it was fab..as was everyone I met.

 

The US has made many mistakes and done many wrong things (name me a nation that has some power that has not) but the fundamentals of the States are something they are rightly proud of. It's not for example a nation that suppresses it's own people..but that desn't mean it's in any way perfect in how it treats sections of its society..there is still some way to go.

I agree....to condemn a nation and its people as a whole is just not right. Even where the most awful regimes were going about their business it would not be right to condemn that nation as a whole.

As Mandela once said "The true character of a society is revealed in how it treats its children", I think that's a good starting point!

We're failing a lot on that..broadly we're great as a society re children - education, health care, social services, strength of the family (althought that's been eroded in last 30 years or so) but we can and should do a lot better.
