Black Friday?

For Us All

Recommended Posts

So like every major nation (and lots of minor ones) the US and it's leaders have done terrible things to its own people and to the people in to the lands..it's just done more cos it's bigger, has more powerful means of doing so than existed previously and so on.

Pretty much every nation isn tehrefore worthy of contempt..except maybe Iceland..they don't seem to have done much to anyone..maybe the occasional pesky Viking (my ancestors actually..me and Odin are of the same blue blood lineage ;) )

Nonsense. 20th century onwards, plenty of countries like Sweden, Norway, Holland, Switzerland, and loads of others have done nothing wrong to their people - and that is even if I buy into this concept that a nation is its people or a nation can do things to its people. A system of politics or a culture or a ruling elite can do things to its people, but not a nation. You know this though.

It is the system and culture of self-obsessed me-first us that I detest, and their determination to spread it to every corner of the globe from Ukraine to the South pacific.

We are in danger of being swamped by this but look at the difference between the UK where the NHS 9despite its problems) is generally perceived to be a good thing, but in the us Obamacare or any kind of NHS-type system are seen as a socialist evil, which is because they are so scared that a tiny amount of their greedily-exploited money might be spent on someone who needs or deserves it.

America has the NBA, best league in the world, and James Harden, the only American in the world that could be mistaken as an Islamic extremist and still manage to be popular.

Switzerland has the best watches, Russia the best chess players, Britain the best music, Italy the best clothes. So what is so important about basketball in the grand scale of off-topic dross? And who the hell is James Harden ? If that is the best you can do to show that the us is a worthy country, it is a pretty sad effort.

I am replying to his post, which is none of your business. If you didn't like it , you didn't have to read it.

We're not trying to prove anything, why don't you get that through your head?

Oh, Houston we have a problem do we ? If you don't wish people to read and therefore potentially comment on your reply, send it in private. It's an open forum, I know where you are now that you think you can dictate to people but that doesn't apply to me. Have a nice Black Friday, don't forget your cheeseburger and soda.

Bea, I think you can load the facts and statistics to say whatever you want. In this case you choose to focus on the negative and ignore positives (using war vs musical inspiration is a very loaded argument) and that's your prerogative but I don't consider it a fair argument.

Having spent some time there, I think it's a wonderful country and I'd love to go back

I would love you to go back too, and I suspect Carl and quite a few others would as well.

Nobody can really make an unbiased comment on if America is worse than here or not unless they've actually lived there. We live in the UK,we Watch State TV that feeds us propaganda saying how brilliant it is to be British, we learn how we were once the biggest nation on earth, and how nobody can match our scientific expertise. We hear it all the time.

And similarly, the yanks get fed with the same crap all the time as well. They have the freedom to do whatever they want, blah blah blah. They have the best armed forces in the world etc, when in reality, the only thing they have over Russia and China (who by the way, the US owe Trillions of $ to) is some nuclear aircraft carriers.

What I'm getting to, is there's no point trying to say your country is better because it is IMPOSSIBLE, to have a civilised discussion over it because the other person will never agree with you. Tell a North Korean that they actually have a **** life and they'd like it better in another country, and they won't believe you, they're brainwashed. As are we, as are the Americans

Your last line just goes to show how narrow-minded you really are, with your hatred of all things American. You don't get out much , do you? How sad. Ok then, stay in your little co**** , wherever that is, and enjoy whatever it is that you enjoy, which can't be much going on your pathetic comments on here, and let your bitterness take you all the way to the end. "Houston we have a problem" Is that the best you can do?

We've had Halloween to contend with and now we seem to have inherited 'Black Friday' from the Americans.Apparently,it starts at midnight tonight and involves a free for all at most large retail stores.

Views and opinions please.

Watching from afar it seems to have shamed the UK a little.

I never understood the crassnesss of it all even when I lived in the States. The day before is thanksgiving when people give thaanks for everything and the next day they trample over each other to get some end of stock clearance rubbish.

Ooh, has someone's twig snapped ? Im delighted the innocent little jibe about the cheeseburger and soda hit the target, shows how paranoia rages for some in the home of the free.

However, I will have to correct you on one rather major error, where you say I have hatred of all things amerikana, as I have already posted in this thread many wonderful things about the country - like the good music, blues, soul, rock and disco and some of the amazing artists that perform it, and I named just a small range of the hero politicans like Robert Kennedy and Martin Luther King who I admire as truly great human beings, and could name dozens of others.

I also acknowledged the scenic wonders of the country, and need to mention some of the great technological achievements.

The rest of what I wrote is also true though, and nobody has posted to dispute any of it, each person has to make up their own mind what is good and bad, but perhaps you can at least try to read my posts accurately.

To repeat, it is not America as a country that is the problem for me (and many others), or the vast majority of its citizens either, but the systems of power that run it Mafia-style, the philosophy that greed is good and selfishness and self-serving acts are good, that all socialism is wrong, that the poor and disadvantaged somehow deserve to be that way, and that all this should be exported and forced upon every different culture and in every corner of the world - that is what I am against. Incidentally, so are some enlightened people in America.

It's too much of a frenzy for me I'm afraid,I'd rather wait a few days until 'Cyber Monday' when I can purchase my 42" Blaupunkt LED 3D TV online at the click of a button.:pc:
