Vales away support

I thought we were crap at Barnet, in terms of vocal support. Given all the hype about super vale away I expected more to be honest!

696 Vale went to Barnet, which is pretty much our average away following so far this season.

Decent turnout in numbers for the distance/costs involved, however we made little noise which was disappointing.

On the subject of Torquay, i see they are looking for an interim coach as their manager Martin Ling hasnt been able to work the last four games and is likely to be out for several weeks with what the club describe as a "Debilitating illness"

They are very much in danger of bombing out of the league.

less than 1200 fans there last night!

I've been following Vale away since the 60's and we've always had a good away following.6000 to Wrexham in 1970 ,the year we got promoted from Div 4,we took thousands away on a regular basis in the 90's.In those times there wasn't that much alternative entertainment.Followings of 700+ to Gills and Barnet are impressive considering the cost and distance travelled.300 to Scunthorpe ?About 700 last time I went on a Tuesday night.

Yes, Vale's away support at localish games is pretty amazing. However, how many have experienced something like a Tuesday night away match in London for example? You wouldn't think the travelling support is so epic then. Not a diehard myself but as I dont live in the mother town I have been a fair few away games with the Vale where you could literally count our support. We are not a Newcastle of the lower leagues, just very well supported for away games within a 50 mile radius.

Our current away average is 666. The current average away following at Vale is 257. Our away followings have averaged 18% of the home teams' gates. Away followings at Vale have averaged 5% of our gates. Bearing in mind that the other teams in the League have to travel the same distance to us as we do to them, I think our away followings are very commendable and I bow only to Plymouth fans in this League as better travellers than us.

Fulham away in the cup August 25th 2010. Got slaughtered 6-0, over 1200 tickets sold and pay on the gates also. Not too bada following for a mid week in London. ****** down too so got a good soaking on the way to and on the way back to the tube. Especially through the park where the paths were more like shallow canals.

How many were at the previous round's game at QPR? 250 tops I reckon. Top night that was though, Justin Richards' and probably Doug Loft's best game for the Vale.
