Portsmouth fans, like us, have endured some terrible times of late, and they are a loyal bunch who go all round the country singing 'Play up Pompey', bell and all, wherever they play. I feel for them.

 

Without the deduction they were going down. With it, they might as well pack in now.

As has been said, Brian Howard and Jon Harley would be sensational signings! The former in particular.

Jon Harley played at Notts County for two seasons with Lee Hughes,which may help.

Good point! But I can't imagine that a large percentage of them understood the financial implications at the time. They probably got caught up in the euphoria of it all. Who wouldn't??? (maybe us NOW, as we would be sceptical about it all)

 

West Brom are a great example of how to do it. Mainly above average players on a relatively low budget for their status. I hate the baggy scum, but they have played it well tbf to them. Bided their time as a yoyo club and are reaping the benefits.

I believe Howard left Barnsley to go to Reading before to move back down South(I think he started at Swindon) so I can't see him moving back to the Midlands/North.

 

Williamson has played for Sheffield and Mansfield though so he is more local!

I'm certain they haven't.

 

I'm sure most of them were on month-to-month contracts.
