McDonald this there to defend high balls in to the box. As a big defender if he is isolated 30 yards from goal by a small tricky player with no cover he is not going to be able to defend well. The same is true of Mertesacker who is similar in size and has 85 caps for Germany. The unit as a whole needs to be looked at.

 

For me Chilvers two dancing on ice dashes off the pitch resembling Norman Hunter v Poland Wembley 1973 were a bigger concern.

Andrews career stats are woeful, his performances to date havent suggested to me that he has anything to offer. There must be better out there

But he doesn't defend the high balls. That's the problem, he is nowhere near as donating as his size should allow him. At the moment it just makes him slow.
