I think the applause at 8:37 would be perfect irrespective of the performance or score as it would show that paying tribute to the man is sooooooo much more important than the performance or score

 

A minutes applause before the game would be great but it would not be distinctive/special; fans interrupting their support during the game, taking a break from the now to celebrate someone form the past would for me make it very special indeed

 

But hey, if it's applause before the game...so be it

If at 8 minutes 37 seconds the scoreboard could change to just 8:37 showing then that would be brilliant.

 

No idea who organises that but if it could be done it would be great.

Well the day's finally arrived & it looks like being sunny this afternoon too. The more you think about what Roy did, the more incredible his achievement was. In these days of injuries, suspensions, signing on fees, managerial spats and changes can you imagine any player averaging 40 games per season for 21 seasons for one club? This is what it would take to rival Roy's remarkable feat.

I was trying to think of a modern day player who comes close to Roy's achievement when I was knocking up a programme piece and the only one I could come up with was Ryan Giggs. Easy to hang around at Manure on that sort of money though!

So true and maybe the only place that a loyal servant of any club will be found is at lower league level.Too much dosh about today for loyalty to shine through.Roy Sproson is a true legend as he played at a time when injuries ended many careers,as today's rules and modern advances in the medical field have helped to extend many footballers careers.Great man,great family.:yes:

Am four hours ahead out here in the Gulf, but will be standing to attention at 7.08.37pm local time to givea minutes applause for Roy. It may attract some odd stares, but I do not care a jot - and I hope Vale fans around the world are able to join in with the applause at whatever time it is with them. Proud to have seen him play - what a servant to the game.
