Summer transfer rumours/speculation and retained list

Didn't realise Alnwick moved on to Huddersfield in January as he was at Cardiff. I don't normally go in for ex players but he's one keeper I wouldn't mind back at VP.  Probably the best we've had since Goodlad on allround ability. Always surprised he's never played more in his career less than 300 appearances for a 32 year old. Guess that can be the life of a goalie though if you end up on the bench somewhere.

Are you basing this on his performances for us over 9 years ago now ?

Yes so evidently a lot could have changed.  He was and may still be a very capable keeper though and more experienced now too.  Signed for 18 months at Huddersfield in January though so you'd think he'd be in their plans for league one even if not first choice and most likely on decent money.  Also read one article he wanted to be nearer the north east.

If he did come up as an option he's not one I'd be aversed to seeing back in a Vale shirt at some point though.

Martinez, Arsenal  15 and 56 loans  in 9 years, Villa 213 in last 6 years, Argentina 59 in last 6 years. 343 apps aged 33 years.  Can be tough getting experience.

Yeah I couldn't recommend a player based on knowledge that old, but worth one the club checking out anyway in terms of an experienced pro.

Wonder if Ray Williams is coming back ??

He would have improved the forward line last season rather than the kebab man

Was it ever mentioned what happened with Andre Grey? Seemed like he'd left the club a few weeks before the end of the season. Did he kick a ball for us after he was seen so proudly holding that Chelsea shirt after the game at Stamford Bridge?

Reading Baggers newsletter it seems that we'll have a top end of the league budget again but there's talk of a lot more scrutiny over the signings. Reading between the lines it seems that Moore was given way too much control over signings and very little thought as to whether they were right for the club.

One thing that did concern me was the talk of using more youth players. I'm fine with 1 or 2 coming through each season but there's a reason why so many are let go. Let's wait until we know they're good enough rather than playing them just because they're home grown.

There was also mention that Brady and the Chief Scout and recruitment team will be identifying players. From what I could gather Darnborough will only come in at the contract negotiation stage. It will be ultimately Brady from a football side and Hancock from a budget side who have the final say.

Is this the first signing of the summer for a club,Mansfield signing midfielder Jon Russell, who was on loan to them from Barnsley for some of last season

Doncaster Rovers have just signed winger Leon Ayinde from Ipswich Town - not seen the lad play at all, but presumably DRFC have spotted some potential there.

Looking forward to our first signings.

Ben Osborn released by Derby.

I think Stockport almost certainly have first dibs but, if they win EFL1 promotion on Sunday, I doubt they will sign him for the Championship.

He is the calibre of experienced player which I would love to see alongside the "young, hungry" players who Jon Brady wants.

Who? 😄

Don't think I saw him in any training pictures after the Rotherham game following that (he did indeed come on for half an hour, but I can't remember if he touched the ball). He was probably granted leave since the season was over.

He was listed as released on the retained list.

Marvelous Nakamba should just be signed for his name

Imagine him playing under Moore. We'd never hear the end of how wonderful Marvellous had been.

Story I heard that he couldn't be bothered to turn up for the final game.
